@bolly Haha, I know. But reviews by actual users can complement the picture.
I say this because of the size of the mobile phone.
-
@bolly I didn't get that, sorry! Wow, that's great that UT's device page shows these specs too!

I probably didn't explain myself as well as I could have.
Yes, it's great, Capsia and more people are doing a great job. -
@bolly No problem! And, yes, they're doing a wonderful job!

@alter Hello and sorry for the late reply.
After using this device for some time now i can say this:
with flaws i mean the following: the wifi is a joke. Let's face it. Half of the time the device can't or won't connect to trusted wifi networks. A mobile connection works fine,, but that's beside the point.
Other point of interrest is this: it needs rebooting from time to time to keep working. sometimes it just stops working, or reboots on it's own.
Bluetooth can be dodgy. Either it will recognize a device and pair flawless, or it won't. Sometimes the connection just drops without warning or message. (Rather annoying).
So these are things that developers need to work on and you should take into consideration when buying a volla phone with ub touch.
I haven't tried the volla os yet. -
@jimpson Thank you for sharing your experience with UT on Volla! You still use the Volla Phone now? May I ask which channel (stable, RC...) and in/outside EU (some issues may be related to mobile bands outside EU not supported)? According to its device page, wifi and bluetooth should work. For wifi, no bands or types are mentioned. If they don't work (reliably), have you filed a bug report or notified developers? Apparently, they are already aware of the reboot issue, but I find it hard to interpret the status of bug fix. For me, stable mobile and mobile data are important.
-
@jimpson I don't know which of the phones you have, mine is Volla X and I must say that it works almost flawless. Ocassional issues: 1 time/week it looses the LTE connection. After a reboot it should be ok, if not switch on 3G and lave it like the for an hour or so and switch back to 4G. Bluetooth has issues with paired devices: just Forget Device and reconnect again. Other than that, just the Notification LED, but these are minor issues, even Android devices face them once in a while.
-
@jimpson if I understood well, in the last update the wifi issue has been fixed, at least i haven't seen it since, I haven't met with blutooth problems yet (which doesn't mean, it doesn't exist ), the reboot problem I can relate.

Thanks @C0n57an71n & @lundrin17 for your views on UT on Volla Phone!
-
@C0n57an71n mine is the siemens gigaset, i believe.
@Lundrin17 the latest update hasn't fixed the issues for this device. When it came to updating the process failed? I got to the point where the device returned to the twrp screen, informing me that the update failed. Upon rebooting, it showed that it was up to date. (confusing, because, did it update or not?)
@Alter Yes, i still use my volla because i believe in the concept. And by using it as a daily driver, i hope to contribute whatever i can to the further development and spreading of these and other devices / software.
I'm EU based, and afaik on stable channels only. I haven't played around with that yet.
Wifi and BT work, but not always. Like i said, it's not reliable.
On the mobile side it's rock solid. No questions about that. I can go for weeks without wifi, no problem. Everything's fine on that side.
How do i file a bug report and where? -

@jimpson Thanks for your reply!
If you haven't changed settings, your device should be on Stable channel. You can check (and if you want: change) this via Settings > Updates. The system starts to check for updates. On the same screen there's a small gear icon. If you click that you can see or change channel.
I think best place to file bug report is:
https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch
and include Volla Phone and good description of the behavior in title. -
@bolly Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
-
@bolly I'm writing this on my new Volla Phone. I decided to go for it and order one with the 5% discount

Congratulations !!! I hope you won't be disappointed, both Volla and UT
-
@bolly Thanks! Up till now it's been a pleasant experience. I also tried the Pine Phone, but that is still in early development, so I sold it. As I'm using my UT phone as daily driver, it just needs to work.

Frankly and after using it as a daily phone for over 6 months, the Volla is a very reliable UT smartphone that only gets better with time. It is made to last a few years even if it is not state of the art. UBports partnership with Hallo Welt Systeme was (and is) a very good idea and if other partnerships could be created, it would be interesting and would bring additional funds to UBports, as some of the users would be willing to spend their money but want something in return, as a scalable and reliable turnkey smartphone.
-
@domubpkm It's good to hear that after 6 months you are still happy with the phone! I think too that the partnership with Hallo Welt Systeme/Volla is a good thing. I like the fact that we can buy newer hardware with pre-installed UT now. But I hope that the partnership won't be exclusive, and other Linux'es will also deliver a mature OS for the Volla Phone and team up, so Hallo Welt/Volla can grow. The more users, the better for UT and other Linux Phone OS'es and the manufacturer of the Volla Phone. It would be great if eventually other manufacturers follow to make open source phones that welcome Linux.
