Oneplus 6 stuck on 'unlocked bootloader' warning upon restart
-
@totalsonic Do you boot into the fastboot mode and then select normal boot? Because I am pretty sure I get stuck in that boot option too (same problem with the warning, not the fastboot or anything).
-
@digital_wookiee - no, I get the warning "unlocked bootloader" splash message - and then am able to have it start regular boot after pressing volume up + power button.
-
@totalsonic have you tried relocking the boot loader? If you have a branded version, keep the token somewhere safe so it can be used later if needed, then boot into fast boot and run
fastboot oem lock
-
@ada - I am pretty sure that Halium devices require the bootloader to be unlocked for UT to boot, as otherwise it will not pass the vendors verified boot (which is expecting Android). But I could be wrong about this - guess it could be worth an experiment.

I wouldn't do that because it can hardbrick your phone on most models!

So I tried to reboot my device after finally succesfully installing Ubuntu Touch.
Then I wanted to try reboot it to see if it would now boot to UT automatically. To my horror it got stuck on the warning screen however.
Is this a known bug? Do I have to undertake different steps to prevent this from happening? I reflashed the UT because it was less work and now I know that is an option. What to do in the future?
Sounds like your phone is stuck in Fastboot mode ?!
-
So I had the exact same thing, couldn't even turn it off, had to wait until the battery was depleted.
Then all I got was the battery low message, if I recharged the phone it would boot again to the 'stuck' unlocked bootloader screen wich it would show until the battery was empty again. At first also the EDL mode didn't work, it got stuck on some sahara communication failed errror message.
In the end it helped te let the phone drain the battery completely until it goes off. Then, start the MSMdownloadtool while pressing the vp
-
Then:
-
Start MSM download tool on computer (to flash stock rom)
-
Push and hold the down etc for booting to EDL mode
-
(while holding down the buttons) Plugin USB to computer
-
(while still holding down the buttons) wait for MSMdownloadtool to recognize the phone
-
Start the upload of the stock rom
After this my 6T was restored. Then I enabled the OEM unlocking again and the advanced reboot options. After that I was again able to unlock the phone and this time it didn't get stuck at the 'unlocked bootloader' anymore.
Hope it helps!

Same here. It worked on first boot, and now it's just stuck on the unlocked bootloader warning.
I can boot into Halium recovery, but from there I still can't boot into UT.
If I reinstall, it gets up to the stage where it has the animated Halium(?, looks like LineageOS) logo and then reboots. After that it should reboot into UT, but it just reboots to the warning and stays there indefinitely. -
@andorinhariver Okay, I've tinkered a bit with my device and I don't think this is a UT related issue.
I'm not sure really why, but the Oneplus 6 seems to just generally have a lot of trouble trying to boot to other OSes.
You just have to try and try and try over and over again.. would be helpful if there were logs of any kind showing what's wrong. Bafflingly, going into the recovery mode works just fine.

Im had a similar experience as well. Coming from a OnePlus One to a Oneplus Six that I received yesterday. T-Mobile Version. Messed around with it for most of the day, I was able to learn how to take it from the Tmobile version to the "International" version stock Android 9.0.11 version. From there I was able to push Ubuntu Touch on it this morning.
Switched over to dev channel (sad there is no Helium dev channel? ) and Updated to Version 511 under Dev channel. Rebooted and got stuck on the unlocked bootloader message screen. Rebooted couple times and same message - no boot into Ubuntu Touch
Just rebooted into Recovery, and the 3 spinning Ubuntu circles come up (believe it was installing the update), phone automatically rebooted, unlock bootloader message came up and then booted fine into Ubuntu Touch.
Checked and verified that Update 511 was installed.
Hope it helps someone

@digital_wookiee
i think its the same issue mentioned in this post.It takes up to 12 attempts to finally boot into UBports on the OP6, just be patient, sometimes it helps to turn it on via USB cable, sometimes it helps to boot with volume+, and often its just retrying..
-
Mine happens the same but with patience I go to recovery reboot for bootloader reboot again and if it does not start, I turn off and on with volume + power and at times it starts normally, you have to try the various options
-
@portu51 And you can reinstall again without format, normaly work
-
@magdesign Can you explain further? I have this problem. Do you mean I need to try and reboot about 12 times just to get the 1+6 to go into UT? Is that each time the device is restarted or just a one-time effort to get the device to restart into UT regularly?
-
@portu51 Is this an ongoing issue? If so that about kills any use as an everyday device.
-
I have the same issue. I flashed UT and things appeared to work just fine. As soon as reboot the device hangs on the warning screen and does not go to UT (or anywhere). I have read people's comments but nothing really seems very repeatable or logical of a solution in order to use the 1+6 as a daily phone if running UT?
-
@ronbillock - what works for me on my OnePlus 6t is to hold the volume up button and the power button simultaneously - and then it will boot into UT. Sometimes I have to do this more than once, but it eventually works.
Best regards,
Steve Berson -
@totalsonic Not for me. That puts me into Fastboot. From there 'Start' hangs me on the warning screen and 'Recovery' puts me on the Halium Recovery screen. I am tempted to select 'Factory Reset' to see what happens and maybe start over.
-
Not having the device myself I can only really use the the info on the device page. The help section at the bottom does give a Telegram group https://t.me/ubports_op6 that should be a good place to start for device specific help.

@digital_wookiee My Oneplus 6 has the same problem after I installed Ubuntu Touch. What works for me is I simply use the power button alone several times. To be precise, when the "Bootloader is unlocked" warning persists for more than 2 minutes, I hold the power button to turn off the phone, and then hold the power button again to switch the phone on. Two or three times usually does the trick, namely, the bootloader warning stays for only several seconds, after which Ubuntu loads successfully.
