It says xperia z4 tablet is one of the supported devices.
I have an xperia z4 tablet wi-fi (SGP712), but it stops in the middle of the process with the message [adb is scanning for devices].
Isn't the xperia z4 tablet wi-fi not compatible with the SGP712?

@yamanobe The devices page specifically mentions the 'WiFi-only' version too, so my guess is that it is supported and you are just running into a bump in the installation process. That will happen sometimes.

I'm sorry if I offended you, but is that true?
Isn't it only the SGP771 model sold outside Japan that is supported?

You did not offend me. But I don't know more than is stated on the devices page. Sorry I can't help!

I just want to make sure that you know this: being stuck at 'ADB is scanning for devices' happens a lot, and usually does not mean that the device is not supported. There can be many causes. Even a bad contact or an unsuitable cable will do it.

@yamanobe Try using version 8.9 of the ubports installer. I have run into many issues with the newer versions

adb errors can as others have sad be for a number of reasons. Windows is a pain at times and can need all adb and other phone drivers removed for it to work. Even then it can lose the path to the device. Giving the system you are using might help someone solve the issue also if you can detect other devices correctly.
I really have no dea how weel this port normally works having never tried it but the best ort of call (no pun intented) is to contact the original porter for advice and that ports are very device specific.

Edit: For windows please try 15 sec adb from the xda developers site and instll system wide when asked.

I'm sorry, but the procedure to install ubuntutouch on this tablet is

Turn on OEM unlock and USB debugging in developer mode
Look up the IMEI (or IDID) and get the code needed for Unlock
Use flashtool to unlock the bootloader

Is this next step to install ubuntutouch with ubports installer already?
Or do we still need to prepare?

                      @lakotaubp
Thanks, I've never used 15 sec adb before, I'll try it.

You always need to prepare the phone since every phone is different when it comes to unlocking for example! 🙂

                        Also :

No Developer Mode = No ADB either! 😉

                        My phones :

                        • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
                        • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
                        • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

                        P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)
