when I do sudo apt install git it says

        phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ sudo apt install git
        [sudo] password for phablet:
        Reading package lists... Done
        Building dependency tree
        Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
        libmedia-hub-client5 libmedia-hub-common5
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following additional packages will be installed:
        git-man liberror-perl libgdbm3 libperl5.22 perl perl-modules-5.22
        Suggested packages:
        git-daemon-run | git-daemon-sysvinit git-doc git-el git-email git-gui gitk
        gitweb git-arch git-cvs git-mediawiki git-svn perl-doc
        libterm-readline-gnu-perl | libterm-readline-perl-perl make
        Recommended packages:
        patch rename
The following NEW packages will be installed:
        git git-man liberror-perl libgdbm3 libperl5.22 perl perl-modules-5.22
0 upgraded, 7 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
190 not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 8,556 kB of archives.
After this operation, 50.0 MB of additional disk space will be used.

Unless I am mistaken, the solution is Libertine

You need to make the system writeable via the mount command or via Ubuntu Touch Tweak Tool 😉

            But...

I am not sure if it's a good idea to install Git Tools this way : You might break your system doing so!

So indeed : Use Libertine just to be sure that nothing breaks! 😉 :thumbs_up_light_skin_tone: :thumbs_up_light_skin_tone:

            My phones :

            • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
            • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
            • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

            P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)

@amy I suggest you to install the Seabass2 app available in the OpenStore and then create a Libertine container from within the app itself: it will automatically install git, even if not a very up to date version.
