Redmi Note 9s Update Error
-
Hi all!
I was notified this morning that an update was available on rc channel (update version 15 if that means anything).
Anyway, the update seemed fine, but afterwards during the initial boot the phone gets stuck on the "Redmi Powered by Android" splashscreen.
Not sure what to do, but thought I should share this in case someone else has an issue.
Cheers!

@j-mackay93 Same here on Redmi Note 9 Pro + devel: https://github.com/ubports/ubports-installer/issues/2201#issuecomment-1034141539
Looks like something has gone wrong, so I reverted to stable with quite some pain to achieve that - and in the end I nonetheless ended up doing a full clean reinstall.

If this ever happens, run the installer again and choose the stable channel, but untick the wipe userdata.

@mrt10001 Works fine as long as you can use the installer. If you check that github thread you'll notice in my case (and likely in case of Note 9s) it only works when you have Android on a phone, but it is broken once UT is actually installed.
And the root cause of installer being broken seems to be this: https://github.com/ubports/ubports-installer/issues/2147

@j-mackay93 Updated my Redmi Note 9 Pro few seconds ago and the phone booted correctly. Make sure you didn't had any modifications made to the system. e.g: Installing apt packages, using the notch overlay hack, or messing with the system in general.
If this is the case you can simply remove the
/data/rootfs-overlay
directory from the recovery via adb. You might need to mount the userdata partition withmount /data

Back to this.
The problem has been fixed and it everything should be ready for when OTA-22 gets released to the public.
In the mean time please avoid updating/changing to the RC and Devel channel.
Thanks. And sorry for the inconvenience!

@nitanmarcel Cheers everyone, I'll give this a crack tonight and try to retain userdata, let you know how it goes!
