Pixel 2: WiFi battery drain measures
-
Hi all,
trying to improve battery life when WiFi is on, as I figured this is the main source of battery drain on the 2 (not so extrem on 2XL, what I really do not understand, as the use the same hardware). I pushed a new version of the WiFi config file WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini and lets see how that flies.
It should be in the devel channel by tomorrow 12.00 AM CET. Gimme some feedback if there is a change
-
Just seen this, I will give it a try and feedback. I have had it on "Aeroplane Mode" and that dramatically improved battery life. Drained from 78% to 52% over three days on standby.
-
Interesting thing is that the 2XL stays more efficient even with the same config under same conditions in the same WLAN. No idea
-
@flohack Could be the battery, Pixel 2 has a 2700mAh battery compared to the XL's 3520mAh battery, which may mean a slightly different power set up (hardware wise) which the 2XL is more efficient at.

@keneda Yes there are quite a few possibilities. I was always under the impression that software had a say using power management as well, but here we have two different but similar devices suffering the same issue.
-
Unfortunately my change did not bring any improvement for my test device I am burning over 10%/hr battery still!
-
@flohack Nor my P2XL

Been testing on my pixel 2xl, since 4 days, on day 1 without simcard and using just wifi the phone drain very fast, even at idle, the next day i charged to full, and it's been 2 days since the phone has been siting on idle on airplane mode and battery still 96% since 2 days, hope the wifi issue can get solved, thanks for this great port, everything seems working pretty well.

@acidlake I know its either network or wifi. I tried to commit a change for less wakeup in WiFi, could you try devel channel to see if that makes a difference? Thanks!
