Hello, some time ago UBports team got a very practical improvement to use Ubuntu Touch by enabling the led as the charge status. As a summary the led color has the following colors:
        red: critical battery level
        white: charging
        green: 100% charge
Most of the manufacturers recommend not to submit to 100% charge because it is a great effort for the battery (more or less between 20% and 90%).

Would it be of interest to consider an improvement so that the LED changes to green when reaching 90%?
I expose it here first to know other points of view before I expose it as an improvement in github or not.

On my E4.5 what you describe happens.
On my M10FHD what you want happens.

I want exactly the opposite. πŸ˜‚
I think I read that the batteries or the OS already takes this into account. Even if you see 100% it is not 100% charged.

For example I can assure you that the current PinePhone kernel has capped the charge (I think at 90%), although we see 100%.

I also want to read other opinions in order to learn. ☺

IIRC Pinephone has a battery that has a 4.38V peak when full charged, but charge is stopped at 4.2V in order to not damage it.

@bolly the m10HD led turns green at 90% (that's expected) and white when it's 100%

I think this behavior is due to a bug in the BQ E4.5. Also the color of the led differs if the phone is on or off.

                Current behavior

state low less than 100%. 100%
phone turned on white led white led green led
phone turned off red led green led led off

                thanks

@cibersheep thats strange it should be opposite. There is no device-specific setup that could overrule the Lomiri color coding for charger πŸ˜‰

For my phone to limit charging (set at 90%) I use uPower from the open store. https://open-store.io/app/indicator.upower.ernesst

This app also lists the number of charging cycles, I have no idea how many times one can charge the phone before battery is likely to stop functioning.

@cibersheep I always charge the battery with the tablet switched off.... I will check it. As @josevidal says, it seems to behave differently.

I will install the upower indicator app, at least it will alert me when it reaches 90%.
                        thanks

The LED on the m10FHD turns green from 90% and red when it is below 90%. This is when the tablet is switched off.
