According to me, you should preferably set the font to the right size in each software you install (this option generally exists).
@doniks AFAI Remember, during my early tests of Libertine, I used the dpi settings to increase the readability of some applications (term, ...). At this time, I noticed that some graphical applications had a non sensitive area in the right of the screen. It seemed to me that modifying the dpi with LTT had a bad impact on the size of this area. But I'm not very sure and I gave up quickly with the DPI setting, trying to set the font size separately in each concerned application
