@s710 The GSI image is no longer supported/under development and is best fogotten as far as I know.
What a pity. The OnePlus devices seem to have pretty decent hardware, and look really nice. Was hoping to get a higher grade phone to run UT on.

@s710
You can find pretty decent phone to run UT on.
No need to have high end smartphone to run UT smoothly.
I very rarely blame my 7 years old mx4 for it's lack of power.You should choose the best supported "recent" phone however instead, like pixel 3a.

I have a volla phone, and I find the performance rather disappointing. Of course, this is a pretty personal view; others might be totally fine with their 7 year old phones running UT.
However I think we agree that UT hardware is mostly mid-/lowgrade hardware, which, in addition, is also rather old. -
@s710 There is a porting guide on their Discord which was last updated in October/November. The stability report was in March which states most things working. Only things that don't work are fingerprint reader, sensors and lxc.
I haven't given this a try yet because I'm still using my OP7 pro as my main device and have stuff on it for work (i.e. windows authenticator and crap like that) so don't want to try just yet. I'm considering getting a Motorola Frontier when it comes out and then use that for work and travel and then try to install Ubports to my OP7. I am also wondering as an alternative what the Volla Phone 22 will be like as maybe that could be a good Ubports alternative and then I can extend my OP7 through custom Android ROMs.

Yeah Iβm also curious about the Volla 22. However yet again it will be released with sub-par hardware; the CPU will be inferior to the OP7 cpu upon launch:

And thatβs really a pity.I am a developer, although mostly app developer (and also c++ linux backend developer). I have never worked on drivers or operating system though. If I had, I would really like to try to contribute in terms of device porting, but I guess thatβs our of my scope π₯΄

Oh well, I just purchased a OnePlus 7
@RyanAM Can you maybe provide some details on why the progress stopped? Your discord link is no longer active, and on your github repos I don't find any OP7 related artifacts anymore.
Would it even be worthwile trying to start some working on OP7 porting as a beginner? I would try to invest some time, and start reading the general docs about device porting, and learn about porting. But maybe if you encountered some severe showstoppers or anything it would be good to know before, or maybe even you still have your progress in some private repo, which could be used as a base?

@s710 think you are better asking him on the discord. looks like he hasn't logged into the forum for a little over a year now.

I believe people have started from less. Maybe it would be worth heading to the porting group on Telegram, to get a feel for the feasibility of this. Plus, there may well be help available; Oneplus makes very nice hardware, you are probably not the only one who wants to use UT on this device.

It's on the XDA forum in the same thread that was posted here.
