Yet Another 3a XL Experience
-
Thank you so much for all the conversation that has been going on here. It made the experience of flashing android 9 then ubports onto my used Pixel 3a XL a very smooth experience.
Flashing was quick and flawless.
Everything worked perfectly!
The OS experience was quick and smooth. Battery was great through hours of continuous wifi browsing. GPS worked very well.
I really loved using it for the night but can't use it as a daily driver for the moment. That would change immediately if webpush notifications through the browser were supported and if progressive web apps were easily created through the browser.
I should maybe think about using my device differently but for now I'm back to android though I am greatly relieved to know I can switch back so easily.
I may get a second device just to keep trying with ubports. Truly amazing work happening but just a bit short of my work needs.
If others have ideas or experience about notification workarounds or possibilities I'd be interested to hear more.

Unfortunately, I cannot speak on the notification issue. However, I'd like to ask what you would do w/ a UT secondary device if the notis weren't an issue. I'm on the hunt for things to do in this OS without cellular before going too experimental.
-
@ghost504 I would just test out more apps from the store and explore more of the features. Maybe look into development basics.

You know you can create webapps with webapp creator or webber? The notification problem will remain a problem until the 20.04 upgrade is done.
If it's phone calls you seek, our Linphone + sip method works while we work on VoLTE.

@rocket2nfinity linphone doesn't exist for arm64, so not a thing on pixel

@emphrath It's not in the open store because it is not finished. But it does exist. You must ask for it in our Telegram/Teleports group

If you want to use android apps in Ubuntu Touch maybe you want to try out waydroid.
