Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
-
Hello, first of all, I am not a developer but I like to tests things.
I have UT on my N5 and it's going pretty well. I got a Sony Xperia Z5 compact (different SoC but same family) and I would like to install UT on it.
I opened the doc and seeing the pages... I gave up haha.
Then I watched this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDwiX-ojnls and now it's much more meaningful to me.However, I have a question: has it ever happened to get a fully functional smartphone after a build? (I mean, an ideal scenario)
This Sony Xperia Z5 compact being rare on this forum, I'm afraid I'll have a hard time debugging it because I don't know much about it and I am alone.
What is your opinion? Thanks

What do you mean by fully functional?
-
@prog-amateur If you are talking about a smartphone of which all the mentioned features in https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ are directly functional after the first steps of a port ? I will say in what I read, N-E-V-E-R. Even less luck than having the 6 lotto numbers I believe!
-
@moem I mean like domubpkm (thanks to him) said : all features directly functional.
And so I'm discouraged, I don't have the skill to debug (just succeeding in a build would be a success for me!)
Anyway, thank you very much for having answer my question !

Already? Porting is a process that takes several weeks... a little more than nine hours!

@moem I think so, but I am not a developer so to me, building an OS on a phone is really a hard challenge.
I was looking for a smartphone with the same SoC, and I have found the OnePlus 2, which has a good support. I don't know if I can capitalize the experience on the OnePlus 2 to use it on the Xperia Z5 compact, what do you think ?
-
@prog-amateur I think that you'll need to ask someone else. I can't code at all and I have no idea what SoC means. Also 'capitalize the experience' doesn't ring a bell. Sorry!
I do know that of all the supported OnePlus phones, Op2 is the least well supported.

@moem SoC stands for System on a Chip, this is (more or less) the equivalent of the processor on the PCs. In any case, thank you for having answered my questions.
So if anybody else has some experience on building, please let me know, thanks !
