Hello all, thank you very much for your feedback, and sorry for my late reply.
I feel no offense, I was just trying to raise something I really care about : privacy. I appreciate you listen to members, and that you have removed this &t=
parameter. Thank you all again.

Snap and Flatpak apps
Hello, I am interested to install UBports on my Nexus 5, however I would like to know if it was possible to install Snap or Flatpak applications there?
I would like to install Kodi (ideally 2 different versions for specific needs), I searched here and there, but I didn't find the answer to my question. Any ideas?Thank you very much.

RE: Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
@moem SoC stands for System on a Chip, this is (more or less) the equivalent of the processor on the PCs. In any case, thank you for having answered my questions.
So if anybody else has some experience on building, please let me know, thanks !

[Morph Browser] Explanation about Canonical in URL
Hello, thank you for proposing UBports, I like a lot the UI.
However, I just have used Moph Browser and I can see that my URL requests are redirected to Canonical using&t=
parameter (see below picture) :I thank your team/ Canonical for bringing UT and Ubuntu in general, but in such case I feel like an invasion of my privacy. On your website, under Donate sentence, it is mentioned "Do you care about freedom of choice and privacy?".
Unfortunately, this is not what I could experience. Now, I (maybe other users) need clear answers :
-
- Why Morph Browser allows redirections to Canonical servers ? Is it RGPD compatible ?
-
- What else is sent as a telemetry from OS/app to whatever company/organization ?
-
- Is there another browser (Firefox) please?
Thank you for your feeback.

RE: why still google in importing contacts
@kugiigi ok ! I was not aware about this "hidden" detail, it's confusing.
For me Nextcloud account sync means obviously Contacts and Calendar + optional features (trough this sync or through specific apps).
Now I really understand te reason of his thread and agree with the fact that when you leave iOS or Android for Ubuntu Touch, you expect to have self hosted sync or alternative sync, although it is good to see Google sync.Contact sync is a very important feature, I hope it will be implemented.

Hardware acceleration
Hello, another hardware acceleration topic ! ^^
That's because I am trying to understand something.
The Oneplus one :- CPU : Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400,
- Chipset : Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC,
- GPU : Qualcomm Adreno 330
and the Nexus 5 :
- CPU : Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400,
- Chipset : Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, MSM8974AA,
- GPU : Qualcomm Adreno 330
have almost the same hardware, as you can see above.
But Oneplus One supports hardware acceleration, and Nexus 5 not.So what is the blocking point, where lies the incompatibility, does the 800 to 801 iteration change the game?
Thank you for your clarifications.

RE: [Morph Browser] Explanation about Canonical in URL
I have found the
&t=
parameter purpose :
https://help.duckduckgo.com/duckduckgo-help-pages/privacy/t/Through partnerships with developers and companies, DuckDuckGo has been integrated into many applications. In these partnerships, a portion of DuckDuckGo's advertising revenue is sometimes shared back. To assign advertising revenue and collect anonymous aggregate usage information, developers add a unique "&t=" parameter to searches made through their applications.
So it should have been added by developers team on purpose. So my question is still why ? And we know that "anonymous" means nothing. Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple use this term.
I dislike the fact that asking question gives me
-1
"like". I am objective, I like UBports like you, but an explanation is needed. If a member is wondering about something (with no troll), I would not give him-1
as a social warrior. I read, and answer. -
RE: What formats are supported for video?
@AppLee I understand all what you say, but please, understand that the priority sometimes shall be done on basic features.
What I call basic feature is call, camera (picture/video), movie/audio player, and browser. They shall be ready almost at start.
Then you have the basic features which may not work at day 1 such as bluetooth, GPS, etc. but shall be important too.
Rather than focusing on one feature or another, I think we already need to get the basic features working. After the new features are a very good thing, but they should not take priority over the essential things.
If we just find it normal that Video player only works on certain videos (for 2 years), we risk saying "it works, pretty well, the rest we'll see later" and we leave it aside for another 2 years ?
It would be better and more logical to prioritize this feature, and please, no offense don't take it personal, somebody have to raise this issue.

RE: FSF High Priority Projects
I just would like to thank you all, as I have learned many things from this thread, especially the chart with the LXC container and UT.
My opinion is that FSF could add UT in the list with a star *(UT on Pinephone only) Because, if UT in the Pinephone complies with the FSF requirements, then it should be added into the list.

@nerdyredbeard I really like this idea. The S2 is one of my favourite phones in my heart.

RE: No GPS signal
@cliffcoggin Good remark, this is why I have asked questions about porting UT on the Sony Xperia Z5 compact which is a good compromise between size, compatibility (the processor is an old Snapdragon used on Oneplus 2, and more or less the same family as the one in the Nexus 5), and availability (already in the market, in used condition, because it's old).
I really hope somebody will succeed to port UT in the Z5 compact.

RE: Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
@moem I think so, but I am not a developer so to me, building an OS on a phone is really a hard challenge.
I was looking for a smartphone with the same SoC, and I have found the OnePlus 2, which has a good support. I don't know if I can capitalize the experience on the OnePlus 2 to use it on the Xperia Z5 compact, what do you think ?

RE: Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
@moem I mean like domubpkm (thanks to him) said : all features directly functional.
And so I'm discouraged, I don't have the skill to debug (just succeeding in a build would be a success for me!)
Anyway, thank you very much for having answer my question !

Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
Hello, first of all, I am not a developer but I like to tests things.
I have UT on my N5 and it's going pretty well. I got a Sony Xperia Z5 compact (different SoC but same family) and I would like to install UT on it.
I opened the doc and seeing the pages... I gave up haha.
Then I watched this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDwiX-ojnls and now it's much more meaningful to me.However, I have a question: has it ever happened to get a fully functional smartphone after a build? (I mean, an ideal scenario)
This Sony Xperia Z5 compact being rare on this forum, I'm afraid I'll have a hard time debugging it because I don't know much about it and I am alone.
What is your opinion? Thanks

@arubislander thank you !
This phone is a mystery : the is not so much information about it on the website, and I couldn't find any review (with UT) on Youtube.

RE: [HowTo] Alternate way of saving battery when using 4G/LTE
Hello @c4pp4 thank you VE-RY much for your script. Please, could you edit your 1st post just to inform about the following ?
->
Final step : Reboot the phone
Reason : I have done the script II and I could not come back to 4G (2G was OK), so I have used the "lte" modification in the script without success. Then I have reboot my phone and the script was working perfectly.
@yoni said in [HowTo] Alternate way of saving battery when using 4G/LTE:
Here are the battery tests, starting with 4G with data on:
2G with data on:
When I see you plots without / with script, it is a day and night ! My Nexus 5 has a battery drain (or the battery is not enough powerful), I just installed the script so I lack of time to feedback but I hope results like yours, it would be wonderful.
Again, thank you very much for your kind help, such a topic shall be pinned I think.
