When I try to import all my contacts I have just got 2 choices. One is importing them with vcf and the other one is God Damm Google. Why Google is the only one and why Google is still in the options? Can it not be possible to get reed of that company for importing contacts?? Are they paying money for been there or they just press to UbPorts to be somehow around?

It's been there since the start and I don't see a reason why it has to be removed. It's not like it'll get your data just being there as an option 😄
UT isn't specifically for getting rid of Google, sure it's one of its benefits. Leaving it there would still be helpful for some people 😉

A better question is why there are no other syncing options, such as Nextcloud, available. The answer is someone has to implement it so maybe that's you? 😄

Because is the one optional service already implemented.

People that use it to synch might want to use it. If you don't set up a Google account, you are not forced to use it.

                No

                Spelling is UBports not UbPorts

Other importing methods are needed and wanted as an extra features. Help adding addition features here: https://github.com/ubports/sync-monitor

One other thing to add, many people are putting a toe in the water as far as Ubuntu Touch goes after using android and google for many years. It is one if the easiest ways (or was) to keep your contacts synced or swopped over for the many who don't have the skills or knowledge yet to use a different method.
Getting your Google account to sync with UT us now a problem. So in effect Google are sorting the issue themselves by making it harder to sync an account withnon google services.

@cibersheep thanks for the spelling of UB.

I cant help with that cause not knowledge of how to do it.

I think vcf is more than enough or through the sim card.

Hello, there is something I don't understand. You say the only ways to import contacts are via Google or vcf, but I see in this video that the sync accounts include Evernote, Nextcloud, Owncloud and a classic CalDAV.

So I'm confused by the comments about Nextcloud being missing, is there something I didn't understand? Thank you

@prog-amateur Those are for the online accounts which apps can be used. Currently, only google can be used to sync contacts. Nextcloud/owncloud are only for the calendar app while Evernote is for the notes app.

@kugiigi ok ! I was not aware about this "hidden" detail, it's confusing.
For me Nextcloud account sync means obviously Contacts and Calendar + optional features (trough this sync or through specific apps).
Now I really understand te reason of his thread and agree with the fact that when you leave iOS or Android for Ubuntu Touch, you expect to have self hosted sync or alternative sync, although it is good to see Google sync.

Contact sync is a very important feature, I hope it will be implemented.
