@nerdyredbeard I really like this idea. The S2 is one of my favourite phones in my heart.

RE: No GPS signal
@cliffcoggin Good remark, this is why I have asked questions about porting UT on the Sony Xperia Z5 compact which is a good compromise between size, compatibility (the processor is an old Snapdragon used on Oneplus 2, and more or less the same family as the one in the Nexus 5), and availability (already in the market, in used condition, because it's old).
I really hope somebody will succeed to port UT in the Z5 compact.

RE: Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
@moem SoC stands for System on a Chip, this is (more or less) the equivalent of the processor on the PCs. In any case, thank you for having answered my questions.
So if anybody else has some experience on building, please let me know, thanks !
-
RE: Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
@moem I think so, but I am not a developer so to me, building an OS on a phone is really a hard challenge.
I was looking for a smartphone with the same SoC, and I have found the OnePlus 2, which has a good support. I don't know if I can capitalize the experience on the OnePlus 2 to use it on the Xperia Z5 compact, what do you think ?

RE: What (doesn't) work on Xperia X compact
@drikk Thank you so much, I was not hoping a so good / complete feedback !

RE: Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
@moem I mean like domubpkm (thanks to him) said : all features directly functional.
And so I'm discouraged, I don't have the skill to debug (just succeeding in a build would be a success for me!)
Anyway, thank you very much for having answer my question !

Question before porting to Xperia Z5 compact
Hello, first of all, I am not a developer but I like to tests things.
I have UT on my N5 and it's going pretty well. I got a Sony Xperia Z5 compact (different SoC but same family) and I would like to install UT on it.
I opened the doc and seeing the pages... I gave up haha.
Then I watched this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDwiX-ojnls and now it's much more meaningful to me.However, I have a question: has it ever happened to get a fully functional smartphone after a build? (I mean, an ideal scenario)
This Sony Xperia Z5 compact being rare on this forum, I'm afraid I'll have a hard time debugging it because I don't know much about it and I am alone.
What is your opinion? Thanks

RE: What (doesn't) work on Xperia X compact
@arubislander thank you !
This phone is a mystery : the is not so much information about it on the website, and I couldn't find any review (with UT) on Youtube.

RE: [HowTo] Alternate way of saving battery when using 4G/LTE
Hello @c4pp4 thank you VE-RY much for your script. Please, could you edit your 1st post just to inform about the following ?
->
Final step : Reboot the phone
Reason : I have done the script II and I could not come back to 4G (2G was OK), so I have used the "lte" modification in the script without success. Then I have reboot my phone and the script was working perfectly.
@yoni said in [HowTo] Alternate way of saving battery when using 4G/LTE:
Here are the battery tests, starting with 4G with data on:
2G with data on:
When I see you plots without / with script, it is a day and night ! My Nexus 5 has a battery drain (or the battery is not enough powerful), I just installed the script so I lack of time to feedback but I hope results like yours, it would be wonderful.
Again, thank you very much for your kind help, such a topic shall be pinned I think.

RE: How to convert a clickable app ?
@lduboeuf
Good question ! For instance, I would like to port Weather (its rainviewer feature is incredible) in my arm64 debian device because I love it compared to gnome weather.
I would be happy to hear about a conversion tool or an easy tutorial to build it -
How to convert a clickable app ?
Hello, I really like some apps in the open store and I wonder if it is theorically possible to convert a click package into an Appimage or a Flatpak, or even a deb file in order to use it externally ?
Thank you veru much ! -
RE: HOTSPOT Issue
@josele13 said in HOTSPOT Issue:
Hi guys [...]
Regards...Hello, I have the Nexus 5 and have tried your technique, which works once out of (too) many attempts (on an android GPS autoradio, so you can imagine how it is important to not be lost).
This is a real pain to make it work on this android device, while for Linux devices, it "just" works without any technique.
I have tried to use my GPS directly from the Nexus 5 with Pure Maps... no GPS fix...
Anyway, I would be so happy that this bug would be fixed once for all.

RE: Is Fluffy chat encrypted E2E ?
Thank you both and sorry for my late reply. Just a question : I have searched for Pantalaimon and did not find it in the Open Store :
- where shall I be able to find and install it ?
- does both apps "combined" drain battery ?
Thank you again !

Is Fluffy chat encrypted E2E ?
Hello, I try to understand the E2E encryption in fluffy chat.
I would like to use it but following this discussion, it is said :
We won't implement e2ee in this app. You can use Pantalaimon for this.
However, seeing this link it is mentionned that E2EE is implemented.
Please, do you know what is the status of E2EE ? There is no other Matrix client in Ubuntu Touch, so I would really hope that E2EE is supported.
Thank you for your feedback.

RE: Useful low tech workaround for Matrix
@totalrando Hello, I have to thank you for this workaround.
I am sad that Element isn't in Ubuntu Touch because Fluffy Chat seems not up to date (according to a review in the open store).

RE: Auto Timezone leads to errors in calendar app
@keneda Hello and thank you,
I have tested an event from the smartphone : I can have notifications, but if the event has been imported from Nextcloud, then there is +2 hours and no notification (despite the fact that notifications are enabled in the settings).

Auto Timezone leads to errors in calendar app
Re: Odd issues with native UT Alarm clock. [Solved]
Hello, I open a new thread as the above is marked as solved, but I consider the solution as a short-term workaround. Also, my device is a Nexus 5, but I think my issue can be cross devices :
-
When I sync calendars with Nextcloud account, I can see that events in the Ubuntu Touch calendar app are in the wrong time zone (I am on UTC+2 and calendar adds + 2 hours).
One important thing to consider : the calendar from the notification bar displays the correct time zone, while the hour in the application is delayed.
If I use this workaround (to select aUTC+0
city likeRabat
and correct time manually, meaning I have to change time in summer and winter by myself), then the calendar app displays events in the correct time. -
Also, there is neither popup nor sound despite the fact that the option has been enabled (is is due to this offset ?)
Please, could you confirm and check this issue ?
Thank you very much for your help.

RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 99 This Saturday 24th April At 19:00 UTC
@Rondarius @Flohack : Well, sorry I should have dug a little deeper, the good news is that my N5 has halium 7.1 hehe !
EDIT : I add another question, therefore, I recapitulate my two questions :
-
Do you intend to integrate a canvas fingerprint blocker in Morph browser ? Here is a link from the source code of a Qt web browser called qutebrowser that could implement this function, what do you think ?
-
When I received my Nexus 5, I have tested all features in Android (Wifi, data, GPS, mic, etc.), then I have installed Ubuntu Touch. I searched on the forum why First Fix GPS take so long (several minutes compared to ~3 seconds on Android), and I saw here and there that A-GPS is not used in Ubuntu Touch, only GPS is used, however the purpose is missing. Therefore my second question is : is there any reason why A-GPS is not used (too complicated to implement, or architecture incompatibility, or license issue) ?
Thank you again

RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 99 This Saturday 24th April At 19:00 UTC
Hello, first of all I would like to thank you for being able to answer our questions, it's very nice to be able to share directly with the team responsible for this OS, I don't remember having seen that elsewhere, bravo.
I have 2 questions :
-
I see Halium 7.1 for Oneplus One is ongoing as a test. As both Oneplus One and Nexus 5 have mostly same hardware, do you think you can port Halium 7.1 to the Nexus 5 ? Or is there any blocking point preventing to do it, and so what is the issue please ?
