Volla phone stuck on logo after OS update
-
Good afternoon,
I just got very recently a Volla phone with Ubuntu Touch installed, so I'm really a newbie with that ecosystem;
A few days ago, I got notified that a new version of the OS was available, asking me if I wanted to reboot and install. I agreed.Since this, the phone does not boot anymore. It gets stuck on the volla logo.
I've tried to let it fully charge, to reboot it, to remove battery, but it's still the same.It looks to me that the OS now fails to start for some reason.
I had a look if I could find someone else having this issue with the latest OS update, even with another phone but found nothing so far, except stumbling upon your community, which seems to be a very good starting pointDoes that ring any bell? Does anyone experienced something similar? Or knows where I could start to investigate/fix this?
Many thanks in advance!

@Loynis :
Are you on 16.04? If so, look at the 'OTA-25 Hotfix' thread. I had the same and solution is:- Install UBports Installer on your PC and start it
- Connect your phone to your PC with USB cable
- Install 16.04 Edge, NO wipe (will keep your data)
-
@Alter I followed the same process to get my Volla working again. Nothing else I tried worked.
I'm sure 'wipe' was unticked but my data WAS wiped so be prepared for that possbility.

@Alter Oh, I've missed that thread! Thank you for pointing it out to me.
I'm gonna try that and will let you know -
@treebeard : Thanks for adding your experience!
@Loynis : If you can, backup before install (always wise to do so with every upgrade or bigger install):Small guide for the beginner (no need for Terminal):
- Use File Manager app to browse files/folders:
Standard Home folders are visible immediately,
App data folders are hidden, click Unlock, enter pin.
Each app has a folder in .cache, .config, .local/share. - Copy App folders to Home (if you want to keep):
To backup a folder, slide folder to left, click copy icon.
Go to destination folder, menu, paste. - Copy Home folders & App backup to PC:
Connect your phone to PC with usb.
Make sure phone screen is logged-in.
On PC, copy backup folders to PC.
- Use File Manager app to browse files/folders:

@Alter Worked well, thank you again
-
@Loynis : No problem. Good to hear it worked out well. Kind regards, Alter
-
@Loynis : Could you mark this thread 'Solved' please? Doing so will close it. Thanks in advance!

@Alter I found out the data wiping was due to the installer unlocking the phone. I assumed my phone was already unlocked but the installer included this step
-
@treebeard : Thanks for sharing the reason! Hopefully it will help others to prevent this experience.
