@lakotaubp Yes! Finally it works, thanks to the installer v0.8.8. Not so easy at first try, probably because of my previous failed installs. I reverted back to the Android firmware, relaunched the ubports installer 0.8.8, had to manually reboot the RN7 once or twice, and it now boots onto Ubuntu Touch! Happy to be there after this long way.
Thank you very much for your hint.

@franzm Indeed, I think it's now a known issue on UBports Installer V 0.9.1 that doesn't reboot the device in recovery mode as it should do, see this thread:

@franzm I have a Volla Phone and a similar issue. Installer is stuck at 'Rebooting to bootloader'. For my phone the latest installer offers UT, Volla OS and 2 other OS'es. I've tried 3 but all stop at the same step (or actually it keeps saying that it's rebooting), without any feedback on what happened. How did you install the older UBports installer, does it support Volla?

@alter You can try this method:

Or you can download the 0.8.8 Beta version here:

@alter I do not have a Volla phone and do not know if v0.8.8 is compatible with it.
When the installer keeps waiting for a reboot, you can reboot your device manually either in bootloader mode (if installer expects to send fastboot commands) or in recovery mode for adb commands. After manual reboot, the installer will go on.

@franzm That's correct. And I confirm that 0.8.8 version is compatible with each supported device, don't care about this.

@stanwood @FranzM : I managed to fresh install my Volla Phone with an old .deb UBports- installer. But not in a conventional way. I tried with 0.8.8, 0.8.9 and 0.9.0 but noticed that in logfiles it said β€œ Download Error: https://volla.tech/filedump/volla-yggdrasil-9.0-ubports-installer.bootstrap.zip Error: certificate has expired ”, there was a file with that name in the .cache/ubports folder but it was size 0. I followed the link in browser and manually downloaded file and put it in in place of the empty one. Then it went ahead with installation. On 'Reboot to bootloader', I pressed volume up & power, released power then volume, as suggested. A menu appeared with: Reboot system now, Ubuntu actions, Android actions. I chose Android > Advanced > Reboot to bootloader. In the next screen (with super-tiny practically unreadable font) I had to press Volume Up to confirm a 'void of warranty'. Then the installer said β€œAll done! Enjoy exploring your new OS!” and the phone went on with installing normal updates with Yumi mascot.
