@dtarrant The X605F/L is still supported. I used it to recover mine back to Android. It does work.
Download, install, create or log in with your Google account and follow the onscreen instructions. Works on Windows 10 and 11.

I'm still struggling. I visited the Lenovo support website and it asked for the serial number of my device which I entered. This led to the 30-page Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant User Guide.However, you refer to Rescue and Smart Assistant (RSA). Please can you advise the best way to access this document. Apologies for being pathetic, but it's 3h15 am and I'm really tired. Thanks in anticipation.

Wow, thanks for asking.
No progress I'm afraid. I've been pretty tied up with family matters. I never even got round to taking my EDL cable out of the box.
i recently re-read your posts on how to start the device and it inspired me to try again. I'll keep you posted. -
@MrT10001 The EDL cable I referred to is an EDL Deep Flash Cable.
It's supposed to avoid the need to split the case. -
@MrT10001 Tried again today but can't access fastboot. Seems like I need install android-9.

@MrT10001 Thanks for the tip. That tool runs from Windows and I have Ubuntu, so I'll need help from my grandson. Won't be immediate as he's got a car engine problem to fix.

Last night my grandson spent the evening trying to unbrick the tablet. He tried all the approaches chrionicled in this topic, but to no avail.
I have therefore decided to abandon the attempt to fix this device.

@dtarrant Did he use the Lenovo tool? The device has to be off when connecting it to the to the pc when the tool is running.

@MrT10001 Yes, as far as I know, he did. My son (experienced software development engineer) and my grandson (who has made previous attempts to fix it) worked together as a team consulting all relevant documentation, including your posts on this forum. They came equipped with a windows laptop which had the required operating system and ports and they verified that the connection cable was good for power and data.
They really tried very hard and we were all disappointed to admit defeat. -

My tab still is in excellent cosmetic condition is of no further use to me. If it's of interest to you, I would be happy to post it to a UK address. It's still in its' original box. Would be a shame to chuck it in the skip. -
