@lduboeuf
Thanks for the reply!
Nothing is impossible with determination; when there's a will there's a way.One way is to access and adjust the Saturation of the screen.
Dropping that down will make it monochrome, black and white.Anybody know how that might be done?
Any other ideas also welcome! -
@JohnnyT23 Best way would probably be to do it in the lower level stacks like mir, mirclient, wayland, etc. I have no idea how to do that. You can also try doing it by modifying Lomiri's code to have some kind of a monochrome effect but that might impact the performance.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure how to make any of those things happen.
Anybody else?

I'm willing to pay anybody $50USD who can find a solution to this for me.

We do have two themes, Ambiance and SuruDark. Do you know about those? Their colors are described here.
SuruDark is not 100% black/white, but dark with bright letters. You can change the theme either via apps like ThemeSwitch. Or you edit the theme file manually (
/home/phablet/.config/lomiri-ui-toolkit/theme.ini
for focal).If you really want black and white, you could create another theme. That should be possible, although I don't know where the themes are located in our repositories.
With a new b/w theme, you would have to match all colors to black or white.
So an app does specifytheme.palette.normal.base
for background andtheme.palette.normal.baseText
for Labels.
In Ambiance this would come up as bright brackground with grey letters. In SuruDark it would be almost black background with grey letters. So your theme would need to match this to use either full black background and pure white letters, or the other way round.That just as another idea. And I am not saying that it will be easy...

@danfro Thanks for the reply!
That seems like the path of least resistance.Can I pay you to create a B&W/monochrome theme for ubuntu touch?
If so how much?
-
May I know why you want this? What's your goal? Ans you're even willing to pay for it
-
@JohnnyT23 I am afraid right now I need to say: no.
I do have so many things I want to do, that are important to myself or that I consider important for many users. I do not have enough spare time to get done what I wish to do, not talking about taking on even more work. In the end, this is only my hobby, coding for UT. Family, work and everydays life need to be catered for as well.
The second reason is, I don't really know where I would need to change things and how much work it will involve. So I can't name the time it takes and even think about a price tag.

@kugiigi My goal is to make my cell phone less of a dopamine-stimulating drug.
Anybody have any solutions to turn display saturation to 0%/make the screen B&W?
-
@JohnnyT23 You will achieve the best protection by simply using the device for the least time possible.
Out of interest, how much will a pure black/white theme make a difference compared to our existing dark theme? Both I assume you would use with fully reduced screen brightness. My personal guess is, that there should be not much difference?

@danfro I do nothing in life half-assed. The job is either done or it's not.
-
@JohnnyT23 So it is more for the sake of it? No real gain? Fine, of course your life, your choice. Have fun. Good luck getting this done.
-
@danfro Lots of gain. Thanks.
