Touchscreen not working pixel 3a xl
-
Tried 16.04 about a year ago and didn't really like it. Came to check progress and seen 20.04 so I installed that last night. Only issue is touch screen is not working. I tried 16.04 again and the touch isn't working either. Tried stable, rc, and dev. Reinstall android and touch is working in the OS and in recovery. Not too many posts about this issue and have read if it's a replacement generic screen but I bought this phone new when released and never had the screen repaired.
Are there commands where I can check the screen functionality? Navigating with mouse and using on screen keyboard

@dwray85 You are/were on the stipulated version of Android before installing UT?
-
@dwray85 it seems you are not the only one, 2 users on Pixel3a Telegram channel reported that.
Unfortunatly, no solution found yet. But yes as @MrT10001 said double check if you used the correct Androi version. Using the last Android flash tool is recommended too: https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools -
@MrT10001 it was on the latest android 9 release

That specific version is needed: PQ3B.190801.002
see https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/bonito preparatory step

@lduboeuf yes that one is the last version of Android 9. Looks like the issue that plagued the Redmi Note 7 on Xenial about two years ago with using two types of touchscreen.

ah "interesting", how it has been resolved for the RN7 ?

@lduboeuf When I get on my pc, I'll look back through the notes.

using two types of touchscreen
Do you mean because I'm flashing with a tablet that has touchscreen?
-
@dwray85 No, manufacturers constantly revise hardware on a devices production run. Down to making software improvements, removing faulty components (usually the eMMC failing early) and supply/demand of component parts such as RAM chips. This may have happened with the Touchscreen, so you get the same device, but slightly different components.

@lduboeuf I tried the devel build just now and it's the same no touch functionality. Is there a command I should run to give you an output or something like a log?

apparently, you would need to reinstall Android again + UT last devel

Unfortunately I have gone through my notes and saved files, cannot find the bit about the Redmi note 7 using different screens that caused non functioning issues. I definitely remember it at the time as I had a rather expensive device I didn't want to soft brick.
-
@lduboeuf yeah that's what I did. All all three builds again going through the complete process again for each
-
@dwray85 Are you sure that you flashed the Bonito Android image instead of Sargo? I had a similar issue when installing UT on my Pixel 3A and I mixed up the Android images.
-
@WillemHexspoor sorry been gone for work the past two weeks. Yes I flashed the correct version both android 9 and ut 16.04/20.04. I've since flashed android 12 and gave the phone to my son and am waiting to purchase another phone but the two I bought were listed as unlocked G020C models and both received were Verizon G020A models. I specified which model I wanted and it had a sticker on the front as G020C but Google label on box was G020A and had Verizon sim. Contacted seller, returned, and was told I would get correct but got a different device with same G020A package. Waiting for that return to process and find a different seller now but it's just weird that it worked on my device previously when I tried it before.
