Not receiving group messages

Hi all-
I have a Pixel 3a running UT Focal. I can receive MMS messages (ie, a picture), but i discovered today that i am not receiving group messages. I don't get an error message or anything- i'm completely blind to it.
I only learned about this when the other recipient of the message was with me. The third party texted us both a plain text, as well as an MMS with picture. I did not receive either message, nor even have an error, while my companion beside me did.
The message worked fine when sent on its own- i only failed to receive when it was sent as part of a group.
Any thoughts how to fix this?

@Fizz Unfortunately, UT does not support grouped messages (complex points not developed), I am sure, when receiving messages because i not received grouped messages too and @lduboeuf confirmed me not supported. And therefore surely sending group messages too. To fix not received grouped messages, ask your sender to send you again the messages as simple messages..

Hmmm... that's unfortunate. Though under Xenial (on my Nexus 5), i at least received a notification error. So i knew someone tried to send me something.
The problem now is i don't even get an error. So I won't ever know that a group message was ever attempted. And i can't ask the sender to send individually if i don't know that they've tried to send me something.
So this is a bit of a pickle... Hmmmm.
