Hej everybody,
So I've noticed that there is a problem on my phone with the images displayed as album covers. It apears that the m.player keeps on searching through the storage and if i let the app run long enough all the covers will apear!
So far so good right! The moment the storage is being accessed via file manager or even the gallery app the music player will start reloading all the album covers... Btw.
the gallery app does the same, each time a photo is added pictures are being reloaded which takes some time. Wanted to take a screenshot of my music lilibrary for this post. The moment i engaged the buttons and the screen lit up the album covers moved a bit and just disappeared and showed the redish/magenta m.player symbol and the gallery started reloading its vast contend of 20 pictures againThe problem exists since i hooked up my phone to my laptop and transfered music files about a month ago. First to the internal storage and later to my sd card which was faster then transfering files to the internal...anywhoozle
So my questions are...
Is this a general problem for the system to have to fully resync/process and remember the files that are already there? Library rescan...Or is it just that... I wiggled around to much with my system and should do a fresh install + wipe user data? ...Which is not a problem...
Any tips or experiences?
Maybe i just ask to much for such an early stage,
For me, my phone is mostly also a media device for sharing and discovering music downloading unzip and move my new bandcamp finds.
So ye the file manager has to deal with a lot of good tunesFairphone4 focal 20.04 mix ( switched between channels) and probably messed up some things but it runs as a daily phone and media device
Thank you

@Vulpex It's kind of hard to understand what's exactly happening as you described. Perhaps you can have a video or something when this happens? I do have a vague idea what you're experiencing though.
Did you mount your system as rewritable and do stuffs in the system? It is is good to reflash without wipe so the system is as vanilla as it can. No need to wipe your data. You can also switch channel which is the same as reflashing the whole system. -

This morning i saw the 601 dev update,
So i just did the update not knowing what to expect. After the phone fairphone 4 had restartet and I opened my music-player and the gallery app as usual to preload its content for the day (as i had to do multiple times a day).
To my astonishment the gallery app opened straight away and displayed immediately all the pictures stored (this could take up to an hour before) same goes for my music library and when ever a new file would be added the rescan of content would start a new...I dont know what fixed the issue or if it fixed itself.
But it didnt happen with the previous dev 600 updateSo thank you all.

imo, just like any OSes, it is never a good idea to go backward and forward.
You should try a fresh install yes.Thank you

I've noticed that when I'm connected to wifi and mobile data!
My gallery app shows the black loading squares
and my music app displays black squares too.So if i stick to just wifi or just mobile data, the gallery app displays my pictures properly and the music player the available album covers.
If I'm to switch on both data connections again
the problem repeats...So ye for now i just make sure to be either connected to only mobile data or only wifi.
I made a video,
posted in the fairphone-telegram-group
for anyone that is interessted to see me switching between connections and its effects on the music-app. -
@lduboeuf hej thanks again for your input
I did indeed do a fesh install with the same outcome. Next weekend I'll do a complete fresh install + wipe user data .
There are too many iddy biddy things that dont work as they maybe should.Like...
-The shut down button needs to be held, if just
touched or let go of...the phone reboots-the media-player does not play any video files,
movies or recordings from the device camera-the media-scanner that just works and displays
thumbnails properly if i only stick to either wifi or
mobile data-when shutting down the phone it takes up to 1min
before i can turn it on againand other little hick-ups...
So far i just did fresh installs without wiping user data, do you think the above problems will be solved by doing a sort of day1 fresh install?

Yes the issue is surely due to something wrong with the user data. A fresh install should do the trick.
Otherwise another test would be to clean some folders : https://forums.ubports.com/post/78610 -
Try the following steps with any media player on your device. If the data is on the SD card, copy the file to the device's memory. Then try to play the data. Please note that it is best to use only Mp4 data as a movie. Otherwise there is an alternative with Libertine and the Kodi Mediacenter with effort.
You can also try the hint with audio data.
