      Hello,

For security reason, my wifi network does not assign ip using dhcp. Need to assign statically to the wlan interface.

But, in ubuntu touch there is no direct option provided under wifi setup. Although, I managed to setup using nmtui/nmcli. why is this option made feature deficient?

@drbsin Most likely as it is a mobile device and the expectation you will be transient using different AP's. If you have a static IP you would not be able to connect to another AP. Does your router not use MAC binding, i.e it assigns an IP through DHCP, then binds the MAC address of the device to the assigned IP address?

Yeah, it supports. But, my reason for being static is not to be statically addressed per se. Instead, to save from possible intrusion.

However, even if the device is made to be used in transient networks, the static ip assignment option is made essid-wise and not interface-wise.

@drbsin You would set the IP on the device to static when it is given it by the IP server. This is retained on the device, so if you move AP's the device won't connect. System Admins will do this on mobile devices such as laptops and tablets that are retained on site, then lock out the network settings to disallow them connecting elsewhere.

It is a missing feature in the settings app. If you're a developer, help would be very much appreciated 😁

I personally use static IP too so all my UT devices have their own IP address and easy to connect via SSH. However I manually edit the connection files. I guess using nmtui/nmcli is easier 😄

It is for the idiots like me.....

However I use a program to monitor my routers IP and MAC attachments so I can knock a device off if required and can access a device too if required.
