Signal Messenger porting progress

I would appreciate very much if Signal Messenger would be available for ubuntu. There is alrrady some starting, but nothing stabile afaik. Does someone has more recent infos?

No sorry to say, but I think currently no one is working on that. I wrote the author of the current app an email, but got no response. I want to motivate him to work with us more closely so that in the end we get an updated / bugfree App as a base.

I have just send a support message to openwhispersystems to ask for support on UBports/Halium...
-
Not that i want to destroy your hope, but the user base is probably too small for them to invest that much work at the moment. Still, doesn't hurt to ask
Btw, Halium is just the hardware enablement stack for the OS, it has little to do with application development.

@NeoTheThird I think we could support the App, it has less features than Telegram, and we find some developer who is interested in that. Biggest issues IMHo is that openwhisper does not like to send notifications to anybody else. So basically they are not so open than Telegram was. Notifications is very important, especially with so few users. I use Signal also, and sometimes I dont open it for weeks (!) just to find out to have missed a message.
Also their Android client is buggy, I can hear my friends say. Well then -
I also had this problem but I solved it. Have a look here: https://support.whispersystems.org/hc/en-us/articles/115005547088

That would be really great! I am not a developer, but maybe this page helps: https://whispersystems.org/docs/

@Bastos How this can help, its only steps for Android, and Ubuntu Touch is not having all these options. Basically no App can run in the background...

Just for linking an older discussion on this topic: In https://github.com/janimo/textsecure-qml/issues/12 the developer of the existing Textsecure app noted that background processing would be needed on Ubuntu Touch to make notifications work for Signal.

Please also see this new thread on Signal/Textsecure, looking for a new maintainer / developer: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/509/looking-for-new-maintainer-developer-for-textsecure-signal-app
