RE: Switching channel from stable to devel
After backing up the data with the magic device tool, I switched channel by using the following command in the terminal on my ubuntu 16.04 desktop computer from the wiki:
sudo ubuntu-device-flash --server=http://system-image.ubports.com touch --channel=15.04/rc
No data lost, everything is still there and active.
Thanks @UniSuperBox et. al.
Switching channel from stable to devel
I am on the stable channel with my FP2 and want to change to the devel cannel. In the wiki I found the channels page and I tried unsuccesfully several times to switch channel on my FP2 using the command "sudo system-image-cli --switch 15.04/devel" from the terminal app on my device
So two questions are arising for me
- Do I make something wrong?
- Should or can I execute the command from adb shell
RE: ubports and wereables question (smart watches)
One week ago I bought myself a pebble time round and connected it with rockwork. Runs like charme, I am more than happy.
Previously I ashed the developper about sustainability of configuration and he pointed me to rebble.io
But anyway you are right. Future of pebble is not clear and other waerables are not appreciate supported atm as far as I know.
RE: Web Browser Alternative
Otter is based on opera so html5 compatible. And afaik the qt basis will make use of all the gstreamer plugins possible.
If all this is right, imo the question is how deep the integration is needed to support all the webapps etc.
Will otter will survive? Do not know, but the github repository has quite frequend usage and has recent issues.
Web Browser Alternative
As I learned from the telegram group, we need a Web Browser Alternative to the existing UT web browser. Furthermore I learned, that this has to be Qt based.
So I searched for a Qt based open source web browser and I found Otter Browser.
This seems to be activly supportet and has a GitHub repository.
So could this be an good alternative to the current UT browser?
RE: most wanted core apps to run ubuntu as daily phone OS
@MDJ Than you are done. Everything you mentioned is already working on my Fairphone 2 :)
