Can't see WPA2 option

In my Lenovo Tab M10 HD (acquired with UT preinstalled) upgraded to UT 24.04-1.1, I can't find the option wpa2 when connecting to a new WiFi node: the only option I can see is wpa.
Perhaps I'm wrong ?

WPA & WPA2 Personal are normally grouped together.

my phone is connected to my wpa2 wifi netword and without having ever selected any wpa option (I don't know where you can select any such option in the phone UI...), I get

In my tablet following System Settings => Network => Wi-Fi wpa and wpa2 are not displayed at all.
When I try to connect to my wifi network, a little top down appears showing: Connect to "mynetwork" and in the below line: WPA but wpa is greyed out and not clickable. If I try to connect to mynetwork which is wpa2, I obtain no connection and no error messages, nothing.
If I shift mynetwork from wpa2 to wpa I can connect my tablet to it.

Doing sudo wpa_cli status | grep key I obtain no answer. Doing sudo wpa_cli status I obtain Selected interface 'wlan0' and after some rows WPS-AP-AVAILABLE (while the wifi is not connected).

I cannot understand the situation.

If the network is already saved then you shouldn't have an option, only when you connect to hidden networks would you enter stuff like this first time.

Is this a hidden network and you have saved the wrong settings. Hidden network are not really advised but that's a different topic...

I would suggest you delete your network settings for that AP, reboot the device and try to setup again. You shouldn't need to use the Connect to hidden network option unless its hidden.

Ah, I see.
If I connect anew to my own wpa2 network after forgetting it, like you I see only WPA under the connect prompt, so that does not mean that only simple WPA is supported.

That's the real problem, you should not need to downgrade your wifi server.
May I ask what is the model and software level of this access point ? Does it work with wpa2 for other clients ?
could you take a look at the system journal using

journalctl -b | grep wlan

you should see lines such as

ubuntu-phablet wpa_supplicant[2062]: wlan0: WPA: Key negotiation completed with b8:27:eb:4a:22:f4 [PTK=CCMP GTK=CCMP]

(like for the phone UI, 'WPA' is displayed rather wrongly, because CCMP is a WPA2 only feature)

Probably because you are not connected.

If the device can't connect it does just show "WPA" in the top bar notification with a password prompt and not "WPA & WPA2 Personal" as it probably should.
That doesn't mean you are trying to connect via WPA.
I think it would be best to follow my instruction to remove the AP and setup.
