      Hello.
Only devices present here are supported:

@computersalat No, as @vlad-nirky pointed out. There is a port for Xenial (16.04), but there is no sound and has not been worked on for a long time. If you want a more up to date version of Android, check out /e/OS.

There it is only supported with outdated 16.04.
So again my question: Is it possible to port current Touch to this device or not or is it impossible.
If it is impossible I would like to understand why it is impossible.
          Thank you.

@computersalat I don't know for sure but the kernel might be too old. This is one of the things that could be in the way.

            Other thoughts:

            • There may be a technical reason why the old port was never finished. Or not, I don't know.
            • A new port would be weeks or months of work, for a device that's over 10 years old, with 4 GB RAM max. That time may be better spent elsewhere.

@computersalat You miss the point, there was a port for it, but it was not complete, i.e. no sound and the porter couldn't resolve it for their reasons. I have a few devices that have UT ported to them but the port has failed, usually no sound (a bit of a necessity with a communications device), no modem, wifi and so on. Porting devices fail for many reasons, one of the main reasons is proprietary drivers (that require reverse engineering) and kernel issues which can take a lot of dedication to sort out...

@MrT10001 As I understand him, he wishes to know WHY the port was abandoned. But we can only guess. The original porter is likely the only person who knows the answer.

Might be they didn't had the device anymore.

Kernel might be an issue as Moem pointed out. I am afraid I don't know our minimum kernel version.

Also sources not being available anymore could be a possible problem.

The specs seem good enough (although not great).

                  OK ...
so sad to have a technically fine Device (my OP2) but you can't use it because of outdated OS.
In which world are we living that we need to through away things that are still working...

That is indeed sad, but let's be fair... the world is full of such devices. This is not at all a specific Ubuntu Touch problem. On Android, this device was outdated a long time ago.

@danfro Many moons ago I spoke to the porter. He was hoping someone would pick up the port as he couldn't get the sound to work properly and unfortunately it then went the way of the Nexus 4, 5 and others. ๐Ÿ˜ง

@MrT10001 that is good to know. I am sure @computersalat is looking for exactly this kind of info.

                          Hi @danfro,

Well, we have a lot of forum users who are interested in a port for a newer device, and we canโ€™t give them a clear answer either.

So, whatโ€™s the point of trying to figure out why the port for an old, underpowered device failed?

It just takes someone whoโ€™s willing to put in the effort, has the time, and owns the right device.

                          Greetings
                          Mario

@Mario.CH I don't think its that easy, sometimes there are things that can't be solved.
If someone wants to make a port, they do it for devices they have. Although for sure new devices are nice to have, people/porters don't buy a brand new device for 800โ‚ฌ and risk bricking it.
And since this topic is about that specific device, answers refer to that.
