@messayisto tank you for your answer which is very helpful for me personally.

          postmarketOS

          • is available in English and Czech according to Wikipedia:

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostmarketOS

          • Does this mean the software is available in English and Czech

          • but offers also changing of the language?

          Ubuntu Touch

          • Ubuntu Touch offers many languages as you say, is this correct?

          • But is Ubuntu Touch also only available only in English and Czech?

To bring it to the point: Is Ubuntu Touch better as language support is concerned?

These statements contradict each other. If it were available only in English and Czech, it would not at the same time be true that it offers many languages.

Only one of these statements can be at the same time. And it's the first one: Ubuntu Touch offers many languages.
I don't know, or care, about PostmarketOS so I can't help with that.

Thank you both for these detailed clarification. I am happy to know this.

But postmarkedOS which is only available in English and Czech scares me.

So Ubuntu Touch is fine as far as Languages in concerned, but not postmarketOS?

I have currently running postmarketOS on my Pinephone, so you mean me as some who speaks Swiss German should update his phone from postmarkedOS to Ubuntu Touch?

No, we are definitely not saying that. If postmarketOS has all the apps and functionality you need, please keep using that. If I remember correctly you used to be on UT, but decided to move on because it was not able to do everything you needed. Not sure I remember what that was, so not sure if it has been resolved.

In the end only you can decide if UT will serve you better than pmOS. But we are not able to offer you a comparison here probably.

postmarketOS supports many languages. The English Wikipedia page is misleading.

@sven Thanks sven, that is what I thought as well. Good to have this confirmed.

                      • I had Ubuntu Touch on my Pinephone, but then it did not work with the Pinephone keyboard.

                      • Then I installed PMOS and the Pinephone keyboard worked.

                      • But now the Pinephone keyboard works also with Ubuntu Touch.

                      • But the bad think about it is that Pine64 has pulled the Pinephone keyboard from the store.

                      • And who wants to deal with outdated devices? :angry_face_with_horns:

@Moem most of stuff are only outdated in the user mind.
From my point of view, if a device fullfill user needs, then it's not outdated.

@stanwood Is a device like the Pinephone not outdated, when I install LibreOffice for almost a month working every day a little bit on it supported by the Pine64 forum, and afterwarts no one uses it. It is not usable since the PInephone screen is too small for LibreOffice.

And when I take my Pinephone down from the screed years later I find out that the next issue with Pine64 that they do not offer the keyboard anymore.

So is the Pinephone not an outdated device for people who need a Linux phone with a keyboard that works? With Bluetooth keyboards and the Pinephone I did not have a reliable connection.

So for me personally, the Pinehone is in outdated device, if Pine64 does not offer the keyboard anymore.

And for me personally Linux phones are outdated devices as well, if I am looking for many years for a Linux phone which can replace mi Qtek 9000, and i still haven't found it after many years of investigation, what I am looking for.

My next device which catches my interest is a Raspberry Pi zero 2 with DietPi. But this will take even many years more :angry_face_with_horns:

@Peter-Gamma The original PinePhone is not a very capable device. It was underpowered when it was launched, and it is even more so now.

Many, if not all, of the issues you were facing on UT before were due to it being run on the PinePhone.

For instance I use a Pixel 3a, and that is a very much more capable device to run UT on, even of the device itself came out years ago. In februari I booted my PinePhone again, and it was so slow that to me it was practically unusable.

All of my tech stuff is outdated, but still does what I require it for. UT is fantastic for reviving old devices stuck on really old Android.

                                    • I thing Ubuntu Touch is great to run on outdated devices.

                                    • I think Ubuntu Touch is also great is you want a privacy phone and not an Android phone without privacy.

                                    • but I am against Google phones.

                                    • Did privacy phone expert Rob Braxman not say:

"dump Google phones and Apple phones".

So I will buy a Fairphone and flash Ubuntu Touch on it to have a privacy phone which is excellent

@Peter-Gamma There are other Android based privacy phone ROM's such as /e/OS and Calyxos. You will never be fully private on a mobile device as you will always ping against a phone mast, but avoiding giving Google, Apple, Xiaomi and so on your data ia a good thing....

                                          • I am extreme panik.

                                          • Pine64 forum members say Pine64 EU can only sell what Pine64 USA sells.

                                          • If that is true Pine64 EU is basically only someone who imports products from the US and charges for this.

                                          • And Pine64 USA say they have pulled the Pinephone keyboard from the market.

                                          • And the keyboard is out of stock in the Pine64 EU store.

                                          • So Pine64 EU should make himself indpendent from Pin64 USA and launche the Pinephone keyboard by himself.

                                          • It is a great keyboard for coders and writers.

                                          • And I do not know an alternative exept for the iGo Stoaway which is too big for my purpose.:angry_face_with_horns:

                                              I agree. Completely insane prices!

And that just for cloning the Pine64 shop and importing products from U.S.?

If it was at least a EU shop with a mission, for instance to save the Pinephone keyboard for members of the EU.

But not the slightest sign of creativity in this direction in the Pine64 EU shop :angry_face_with_horns: .
