When updating to the new rc version 12, the gesture feature double-tap on screen for waking wasn't available any more....
Is there a way to reactivate that nice and useful little feature?
        Hoping...

@uwahl The feature was removed by the porter because it caused a nasty bug that made the touch screen unresponsive, and thus the device totally unusable for a certain batch of Pixel 3a and 3a XL's. So it was down to either having it work for some devices, but getting an increasing amount of newly flashed devices not work, or removing the feature for now.

The reason is a bit technical, but there needs to be some trigger coming from userland to reset the touchscreen sensor to be able to have this feature work reliably across the whole range of Pixel 3a devices and their hardware revision.

so, if I understood right, there is no way to temporarily getting back the feature via gsettings?

                What a pity...
Finally I chose the only (?) way to get back my double tap to wake function: I went back to stable channel focal (ota 4) where the feature is still alive - saving my hardware (on off knob) so much!

Where can I have a look for watching the further progress of the feature before I'm updating focal the next time?

Every release is accompagned with a blog post:

...yes, indeed, no double-tap2wake for pixel3a in new ota5...
I'm hoping for the future...and will keep my ota4 so far...

                          Hi @uwahl

Here is the reason explained by Alfred on why this limitation:
                          https://www.youtube.com/live/aVFGtLSE8do?feature=shared&t=2197

So even if Alfred said that it can be done, I wouldn't count on it except if you're willing to do the job yourself or find someone motivated enough to do it.
I cannot recommend that you stay on OTA4 for too long, so maybe wait for 24.04, but that's up to you.

Couldn't it be an option to at least keeping alive the option for that feature? So that interested people could switch it on via commandline with something like: "enable double tap to wake"??

@uwahl That was not an option, no. Even disabled, the presence of the feature, the way it was is what was causing the issue.

@uwahl I agree, big L. They should have just kept it in as an option. There are already enough features missing in the current release. It's always 1 step forward, two steps back.

Please re-read this post explaining why it has been disabled.
I was a double tap to wake user too. But i'm rather happy if it allows other people to have a usable phone.
I don't feel the same. For me the P3a is a great port. very happy with it., what missong features are you talking about ?.

I know Double Tap to wake is disabled in OTA-5, and hope it will be back again in the next upgrade.

Also love to see AOD feature will be available.

I have Pixel 3a XL and it was working perfectly on Android 9.

Unfortunatly no, next OTA will not bring back that feature, the porter haven't find a way to re-enable it without compromising the phone usage for some devices.
