Present state of Matrix Client Apps in UT 20.04
-
Hi there,
I am having a hard time trying to get a working solution for matrix messageing on my new UT 20.04 phone.Despite the information from the pinned tutorial links collection, uMatriks and FluffyChat seem to be unavailable in my OpenStore.
Element from OpenStore installs but appears to be broken (only white screen after login, session restore problems when re-opening)
Cinny seems to be the only working client option from Openstore but does not support the homeserver I use (which is hosted by a small independent tech collective). At least not using default login mask. I'd rather not switch to one of the majormatrix servers if there are possible other ways.
I managed to install nheko and element-desktop in libertine container, however both fail to login, even so when I use an account with matrix.org homeserver.
Im quite desperate at this point, any help appreciated.
Best, volatius -
@volatius you can type different server inside Cinny UI.

@paulcarroty
There is a drop down menu containing 5 severs (unfortunately not the one I use) on login. I dont see any other server choice option in the GUI. -
Ah sorry my fault. Did not recognize that type in field of the server name, which isnt implemented too obvious.
However many thanks, that solves it for me.

Hi I just want to push this thread once again,even though my initial issue was solved. It turned out that Cinny is not loading images and other files probably due to changes in matrix protocol.
This issue was raised already on githubAs I pointed out also Element is broken, dont know if its maintainers are aware yet.
So as far as I can see, there is indeed no convenient matrix client out there in open store at the moment?
Or is there any alternative like buidling from source etc? Unfortunately my coding skills are close to zero, however compiling if there is potentially working code might be achievable for me (I like challenge my self from time to time hehe..)

@volatius
Have you tried https://hydrogen.element.io in the browser? This worked for me in the past.Hydrogen is a "lightweight matrix client with legacy and mobile browser support"
-
@drikk nice one! It works way better than the other clients I tried.
Meanwhile cinny fully broke for me after an accidential logout, after which it keeps crashing on startup login attempts. Even after allegedly deleting all app data using UT tweak tool and reinstalling cinny, the issue remained unchanged. Magically however, cinny still keeps pushing out notifications from my supposedly terminated previous session.
Thus, my "undead" cinny now enables a kind of arkward workaround to add notification functionalities to the otherwise well working hydrogen client. For now, I'll keep using this "dream team" I guess.

@volatius Great! Happy to be a part of your unholy journey into the matrix!
