Update 28 May 13:20 UTC: a new RC has been published. Changes include a fix for Waydroid startup race condition, an APN config update for 1&1 (a carrier in Germany), and additional security fixes from Ubuntu upstream.
-
With the 28 May update and a Volla 22
Emojis: OK
Waydroid: OKI dont' have a SIM in this phone so I can't test related things.

@peat_psuwit
I have a Volla Phone 22. It had been on RC-channel.
It is now on UbuntunTouch 20.04 (2025-W22).Waydroid was working before (previous version on RC-channel from the weeks before.
I did not reinstall the waydroid helper, as it seems to be the latest version.
I ran the Waydriod helper, selected deinstalling waydroid without wiping app data.
Then I used waydroid help to download the latest version of waydroid with GAPPS (as I had in my previous waydroid installed),After download, I see the waydroid helper Icon and the waydrod stop (without the icon) in the app list. I do not see anything to start waydroid. Also after repeating the installation of waydroid it is the same and also after phone restart it did not change.
-
@mjosenhans I would not say its caused by any new changes, i dont have waydroid stop icon since instalation of my device, that is at least one year now
-
@uxes
Did you used waydroid helper to add it? -
@Vlad-Nirky I did, but that is offtopic
-
@mjosenhans We're unable to reproduce this issue. Please run the following commands on a computer, which will collect logs from device for debugging.
adb shell journalctl --user-unit=lomiri-app-launch--application-click--waydroidhelper.aaronhafer_waydroidhelper_3.2.0--.service >waydroid-helper.log adb pull /home/phablet/.local/share/applications/Waydroid.desktop tar -cv --xz -f waydroid-logs.tar.tz waydroid-helper.log Waydroid.desktop rm -v waydroid-helper.log Waydroid.desktop
You may need to enable USB debugging first. After running commands, please attach file
waydroid-logs.tar.xz

I tested version 2025-W22 on my Xiaomi POCO X3 NFC (surya), and here are my observations:
- The notification LED works normally
- Emojis display correctly.
- Waydroid functions without issues. So far, I haven't noticed any regressions.
Regarding VoLTE:
-
With VoLTE disabled:
Basic functionalities (calls, SMS, MMS, and cellular data) work perfectly. -
With VoLTE enabled:
Basic functionalities (calls, SMS, MMS, and cellular data) also work.
However, when the phone exits airplane mode, it often struggles to reconnect to VoLTE.
Other users have reported issues related to VoLTE that I couldn't reproduce, but I mention them here in case they might be useful:
- Inability to send SMS when VoLTE is enabled (https://forums.ubports.com/post/85788).
- Inability to download messages with Teleports when VoLTE is enabled (https://t.me/ut_pocox3/18228).
- Difficulty hanging up after a call when VoLTE is enabled (https://t.me/ut_pocox3/18506).This happened to me once and seems to occur randomly.
-
For me, what i use on Volla 22 :
-
notification led for sms mms OK (new feature thanks !)
-
SMS ok
-
MMS ok
-
Hotspot ok
-
not tested calls (yet).
Edit 2 juin : calls ok.

to upload I renamed the file ending with .txt, please ignore the txt when decompressing.waydroid-logs.tar.tz.txt
I think that I know what happend. I downloaded the image with GAPPS. It was very slow. I downloaded it via WLAN using a repeated jin the wlan network. It was 1 thrid downloaded, an seconds later it said "complete". But, I guess it had not downloaded at all. That is likely why the waydroid.desktop file ist not there. I tared it without it and uploaded the tar file as txt, as the forum was not able to upload tz files. I will try to download it near the wlan router without repeater. Pehaps it goes better.
-
I went down next to the dsl router wlan and connected directly to it. The download was fast and worked correctly. After that Waydroid worked correctly. Thus the problem seems to be, that the Waydroid helper download sometimes failes and still says with a green button complete, instead of saying download failed.

Volla 22:
Calls: ok -
I just noticed that Waydroid Stop icon is there finally after successfully downloading waydroid on Volla 22.
-
I just noticted a further issue. In call forwarding it says to forward some home calls. When selecting this, it says forward incomming calls when not available (to a german number I do not know). When removing the hook to disable this and going back to the pre vious menu, it still says forwarding some phone calls. When going back to this menu, it says that calls are still forwarded to that phone number.
-
Request a USB tethering test for Suzu.
@peat_psuwit make sure to include this fix.

First of all, thank you for additional testing (both on Waydroid and on the call forwarding issue).
On the call forwarding, some carriers use call forwarding for its own purpose and you can't really unset it (happens with my carrier at least). Please test this issue on another phone to see if this is the case.

Unfortunately, unless this is a regression or a critical problem, we cannot accept additional fixes at this stage, as it will delay 20.04 OTA-9 by at least another week. It will be included in 20.04 OTA-10 and in upcoming 24.04-1.0.
That said, I think the fix in that PR is not correct. But that's off-topic for this thread...
