port for Galaxy S23 Ultra or at least S21 Ultra
-
Dear Gents and Ladies
My family has 3x Galaxy S21 Ultra and 5x S23 Ultra phones and I would like to move everyone on Ubuntu Touch while ideally upgrading the old S21s to the S23 as the more modern device for future proofing (12 or 16 GB of ram and large batteries).
Is anyone working on a port for a more modern phone like Galaxy S23 Ultra or at least S21 Ultra?
Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance !

@k.eleni Sadly this isn't an easy task to do. You can check the Gitlab repo of ports but I'm not aware of anything in progress for these devices. There are even Samsung phones that you can't unlock so those are impossible to port.

@kugiigi Do you know if at least a newer Pixel is in the pipeline like the Pixel 8 or, even better, the Pixel 9 Pro ?
I do not mind changing the family platform (even though it would come with investing 4-5k in new phones) for a good cause with long term privacy benefits like going all out on Ubuntu Touch.

I believe someone is currently working on the Pixel 7 Pro.
Keep in mind that newer phones are more expensive. Not many of our porters are willing and able to buy an expensive phone and then risk bricking it.

@k.eleni There's really no pipeline. It highly depends on individuals who have the device and willing to do the work and risk their device for bricking. So far, there's not much good history for both Samsung and Pixels. Pixel 3a has a good port but I think it won't even get VoLTE because of some issues with it stack being too old. I don't know if there's any Samsung port that is good.
The safer bets are the Fairphones and Volla phones. Also not that I'm pushing away, if your concern is privacy then maybe Android ROMs like GraphineOS would suffice?
