        Hi,

I am wondering how well the Volla Tablet works with UBPorts? In particular:

        • How is the battery life?
        • Are there any bugs?
        • Is anyone using the volla keyboard case with it - does it work well in UBPorts?
        • Is there a stable 24.04 release for Volla Tablet?
        • How is the WiFi stability?
        • Is waydroid working now? (see note below)
        • Has anyone installed UBPorts on the Volla Tablet replacing VollaOS in the process? (or perhaps setting up dual boot?)

The next bit might be better in a different thread, but I'll try my luck here:

Also, I would like to use this device for two main purposes:

        1. As an RDP client - it'd be a useful little device to RDP into some Windows systems and use as a portable client for some work that I need to do.
        2. As a media player.

I can't see an RDP client on openstore - anyone know if libertine + remmina or rdesktop would work okay - or maybe if waydroid works, possibly an RDP client from android? Having mouse + keyboard support would be essential.

How are the video playing capabilities on UBPorts these days?

        Cheers

I ordered the Tablet with UT and also got the keyboard some days ago. Maybe I can answer at least some questions. I didn't use the tablet often before the keyboard arrived.
And even since I got it, I had not much time, yet.

From the short time I tried (without any troubleshooting) I can say:
UT doesn't always recognize the keyboard at startup. You need to disconnect and reconnect to make the tablet realize, the keyboard is there.
Tapping on the touchpad or two finger scrolling etc. doesn't work. You have to use the physical "mouse" buttons. The sensibility of the pointer is too low.
Even though there are mouse and touchpad settings you can't set anything because it asks you to connect bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

          Battery life: Can't tell yet

Bugs: Sometimes charging takes the whole day and it discharges even while charging. When turning it off it keeps discharging and shortly after the battery is completely drained.
But that's not always the case (I haven't figured that out, yet). And yes, I'm using the charger and cable delivered with the tablet.

Yes, there is a stable 24.04 release

          Wifi is stable so far.

          Haven't installed Waydroid yet.

          Maybe that helps a bit...

Thanks for the reply! Just for comparison's sake and for other people I've put down my limited experiences in VollaOS as well. Worth noting that I also have not used it that much yet.

I just had this happen on VollaOS - although I connected the keyboard case to the tablet during startup so might just be because of that.

I've been using an external USB wired mouse when keyboard case is connected so cannot comment on touchpad.

I have also experienced long charge times - I charged one time while tablet was connected to the case and it took a very long time (basically a whole day). Unfortunately I don't use the tablet enough to say with certainty this had something to do with the case.

Thanks again. I'm still on the fence as to what to do. If I can find documentation for switching to UBPorts, but also for switching back to VollaOS (or another android based OS supporting Android apks) again I might at least give it a go. I really need an RDP client (or perhaps a good VNC client) to make it worthwhile to switch.

Hello friends. I hope you can help me, please.

I just received my Volla Tablet's keyboard and stylus accessories. Unfortunately... I'm not sure what I'm missing here but I can't get either to work. The pins are in full contact with the keyboard as far as I can estimate but no touchpad or key input is working. From what I see online the pins are meant to draw power from the tablet itself to power the keyboard, with no bluetooth connectivity or charging intended. Regardless I put a USB-C cable inside to "charge" and as you might expect that didn't seem to induce charging but rather it makes the keyboard backlights flicker slightly a few times on each connection. I believe the USB-C port is for external accessories but, again, if the pins aren't performing their intended function for whatever reason I doubt the port will function either. I can't reasonably infer that the tablet's own "female" pins would have worn out in the several months I've owned the tablet, given they have been recessed and protected by the original case which I received along with the tablet. What I can positively say so far is that it is working well as a stand in landscape orientation, and as a protective slip cover when folded up like a laptop.

I charged the stylus (speaking politely, it would be a positive feature to include a small printed guide with it, or a video on the product page) to the point where the light turns green and switches on and off. The product description page states that it doesn't leverage bluetooth either, instead using an electromagnetic field. It doesn't give any signs of response when used on the touchscreen, unlike my fingers. Not with the tablet nor indeed for any other mobile device with a touchscreen (hmm perhaps with a Nintendo DS/2DS/3DS but any old non-battery powered stylus would work on that family of consoles regardless). I don't even know if it's on or off beyond the light remaining on and green and nor do I know how one would power it off (surely it's not intended to simply be constantly powered on until the battery drains 100% and then for it to be recharged?).

Naturally I am testing both of these devices on Ubuntu Touch and don't dual boot VollaOS to see how they'd function in that environment.

Can anyone please help diagnose these issues with their experiences? Video coverage would be most appreciated but text is great too.

I guess I'd better check the compensatory (as in a freebie as these products were delayed) bluetooth headset too...
