@neothethird here you go: Issue 696

BTW it is not that rare. I have access to 2 of them.

Is there anyone out there who got "16.04 rc" working on MX4?

And if yes, does it continue to work after first reboot?

@thepossessor @mariogrip uses a MX4 as a daily driver, and I assume he's running the latest devel image, so he can probably shed a light on this.

MX4 seems to be a weird beast, there are several versions of that phone model, and people try the install process on MX4 running different OS.

Last night I helped a user to install UT on several devices, two of them were MX4. He achieved success on one of them but not on the other. Why? who knows.

@advocatux I can back that up. My mx 4 updated fine. When you switch it off and back on it starts up then stops I then have to start it again and all is fine. Just a bit odd !

@lakotaubp hmm someone with enough knowledge (not me hahaha) should dig deeper on why that's happening.

@advocatux same here. When I get some time I'm going to try again and see if it stops will let you know how it goes.

@advocatux Just done. Clean install with wipe. Very basic setup. Restarted 5 times. Sometime slow to boot. Hangs on Miezu screen black bar appears at boot then goes and it boots into UBports. Others starts very quick into UBports. So yes after first reboot mine does start.
Is there a wiper button issue on the Miezu? Have to move my finger about at times to get it going.

@advocatux oh flip spell check madness again. POWER button POWER button. Did I not say I'd fitted wiper blades to the screen: )

@lakotaubp lol, okay. I don't remember any specific issue with MX4 power button. Maybe it's a hardware issue in your device?

@advocatux Only mentioned it in case it might be causing an issue for @ThePossessor in combination with 16.04. Really have no idea. Can only suggest he tries clean wipe install 15.04 then the same on 16.04 and see how it goes.

Thanks @advocatux and @Lakotaubp for your answers and tests.

@Lakotaubp Switching back to 15.04 works perfectly each time. I have tried to go from there to 16.04 with wipe many times. The first boot then works ok. After basic setup I do poweroff.
                              When I switch on again:

                              • I get the meizu logo powered by ubuntu
                              • Am small black bar with a text appears on bottom
                              • button light goes on
                              • button light goes off
                              • small black bar disappears
                              • screen goes totally bright
                              • If this is the first time to switch on, then after ~20-40 seconds the device boots one more time. After this, the boot progress simply stops here at every boot.

I even tried a second MX4 I have access to. It gave the exact same result.

@thepossessor I must admit mine as I said does take a time to start up like yours, but after the bright Miezu screen so far always has.
When the screen appears to hang have you tried pressing the power button down again to see if that will force it to boot up . I've done that once before.
Also I'll check the spec/ build numbers of my Mx 4 tomorrow and let you know so you can check against yours see if there's a difference. It might give us a clue to something.

@lakotaubp pressing the button again does not have any effect.

Holding it a few seconds switches off again as expected.

@thepossessor and if you keep holding after it switches off does the reboot still hang. Mine reboots as normal if I do this after the long bright miezu screen hang.
One last thing try the dev version of 16.04. Not sure if you have, it might just have a different effect.

Holding power button makes the phone power off and then power on again. It does not boot to UI though.

I am already testing dev channel too. No difference.

Model is "M461 LTE Mobile phone".

Develop channel makes no difference on mine.

@thepossessor then I'm stumped sorry different model may well be the issue. I would now post a bug report if you havn't already. If I come up with anything else I will get back to you. Lets hope someone else can shed light on this.
