first read this (how to) https://forums.ubports.com/topic/2436/living-on-the-edge-how-to-install-ubuntu-touch-from-the-edge-channel

after running "sudo system-image-cli --switch ubports-touch/16.04/edge --progress dots" BE PATIENT, took at least 45 minutes to install in my case. you'll see a lot of dots .... in the terminal

and if everything goes well you'll have ubuntu touch edge channel on your phone

Nice but I think it's good to post this reminder here:

Do not run software from the edge channel on your day-to-day device

(It is possible that some changes go awry when working with a system as interdependent as Ubuntu Touch. Even small changes may cause unforeseen consequences leading your device to fail to boot or function normally. Please only perform these steps on a device which you don't rely on every day).

@joe Apparently it doesn't work when executing the command on the device itself. not sure why.....
You'd need to run it via ADB or SSH.

@kugiigi Thanks, I was running via adb , but maybe I'll try ssh.

@joe try using adb again. Probably you got bitten by that signatures issue in our repo (it's fixed now).
