Ecosia Search Engine in Ubuntu Touch / Morph Browser
-
Not a perfect solution perhaps, but I guess you could set ecosia.org as your homepage, and just search from there...
Edit
I guess you could also put in a feature request to be able to choose search engines. -
@3arn0wl thank you for the quick response. This is my current workaround
-
@erik-kueng a permanent fix for that would be to add ecosia to this list https://github.com/ubports/morph-browser/tree/xenial/src/app/webbrowser/searchengines
You can file an issue but if you take a look to those files format, you'll see they're pretty simple so maybe you can PR it yourself

@advocatux
It would be a nice feature to be able to choose the appropriate search engine for each search though, as you can with Firefox... As in; going straight to Wikipedia, or thefreedictionary or whatever... it cuts out a layer. -
@3arn0wl I don't know how difficult that would be to be implemented. My shortcut for that is to use DDG as a homepage + bangs (https://duckduckgo.com/bang)
For example typing
ubports !eco
in DDG goes directly tohttps://www.ecosia.org/search?q=ubports
-
Thanks for that, @advocatux - I thought bangs were just something Michelle Obama had !
-
@advocatux thank you for your help.
I will edit the mentioned list.
best regards,

DDG bangs are a transformative innovation for search.
12,000+ bangs available: https://duckduckgo.com/bang

Thanks to your suggestion,I created a .xml file and it works great. Unfortunately I am new to this and was not able to upload it to github, I do not have push access.
What is the best procedure to get it to the community?
Thank you very much,
Erik -
@erik-kueng you can make a PR and then someone like @UniSuperBox will approved it and merge it.
Thanks for your work btw
