OTA-10 call for testing
-
Update, August 16: Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 release candidates have been respun. Please update and continue testing as normal.
The new release date for Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 is Wednesday, August 21.
This forum post is a companion to the OTA-10 call for testing blog post.
Please post any general observations you have while testing the current image in the rc channel, as compared to OTA-9, in this thread.
If you have any comments on any of the specific issues in the OTA-10 tracker, please post them in the issue thread so they are easier to track.
This is not a place to request more bugs be added to the scope for this release. We'll experience death by a thousand cuts if we allow adding "just one more thing" to the release again. We want to make sure that the bugs labeled as fixed are actually fixed so we can get improvements out to the Stable channel.

Tried to test on Nexus 7 deb, but no luck:
Dusted off the device, ran
snap install ubports-installer ubports-installer
seems I have (0.2.3-beta).
Chose 16.04/rc,
installation completed,
but I only get Ubuntu 16.04 (2019-W11), which is way too old -
Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 is currently delayed due to "Google account key change invalidates authentication, can't sign back in." This also gives us a chance to check on deb.
-
@doniks, the issue with deb has been resolved. Updates are now being sent over automatically.
It appears that this has been an issue for months. The last build was the 30th of March. Do you know if any of your users noticed the problem in that time? Was it filed as a bug?
-
The Google sign-in problems continue to plague, this time in "Broken online accounts fail silently". Revert "Google: use new Ubports keys" has been pushed to resolve this. Again, RC needs to be respun to see the changes. devel is building now, rc will be pushed from it tomorrow.

Thanks, though I don't think it is fixed. I ran the installer again and I still end up with 2019-W11. Also when I look here http://system-image.ubports.com/16.04/rc/deb/ and there http://system-image.ubports.com/16.04/rc/deb/index.json I don't see any changes.
Could you point me to where the code is that updates/generates those jsons, publishes the files to system-image server? I can poke around a little myself, maybe I find the culprit

I'm not hugely surprised that this issue might have passed unnoticed. I think the number of deb users is very small. Take the subset that run rc, take the subset that report the issue, you are likely to end up at 0.
Was it filed as a bug?
I don't think so. Haven't seen it fly by, nor can I find it now when searching for it. I'll file it.

RC was not pushed because no RC has been pushed. Only devel is building again. RC will be pushed later.

Hi
1st timer here with UB on a old but new to me Nexus 7.
I installed stable via ubports-installer 0.2.5-beta running on arch linux
Install was slow but without issue
1st boot went OK and after testing basic functionality I changed to the RC channel via ubports-installer
update again was slow but without issueInitial impressions are very positive. This is a great project, thanks. Feedback on OTA-10 and UT in general
What worked well
- Easy install (easier than custom Android Roms)
- Battery life seems to be as good as stock Android (run for a few days before trying UT)
- Terminal app is very nice, better than termux on Andriod
- Adding gmail and office365 email (for work) was easy
- Importing google calender
- Morph browser is responsive, although not being able to import bookmarks is a pain
- Wifi connected 1st time
- Bluetooth connected 1st time
- Finding apps on Openstore is easy
- The following apps seems to work well: Kodimote, BBC News, Youtube, Music, Strum book reader
- No crashes or hangs of UT itself (some apps did have issues - see below)
- Steps to ssh into UT are easy at least for a linux user and I can scp files with ease
What didn't work well
- Importing google contracts - they appear to sync i.e. contacts appear but then they all disappear
- Kindle reader - never found my online books and seemed to be permanently syncing
- Media player - does not play mkv, mp4 or mp3, neither did UTmedia
- Messaging app does not work. My Nexus 7 is wifi only, so maybe better to delete message app if it requires SMS.
What could be easier
- I had to search online to find how to change font size (too small for an old guy). Found UTtweaks and it worked, but would be nice this included in system settings
- Having a phone app on a tablet is confusing (unless it supports SIP). Good if it could be deleted or hidden in launcher
What is missing to be my daily driver
- A working messaging app. I see hangups was available on older UT releases
- A Working video player, mpv, ffplay, vlc etc.
Overall UT is awesome and far better than I expected.

Thanks for the feedback @gps1539! I'm glad you're enjoying Ubuntu Touch.
Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 release candidates have been respun. Please update and continue testing as normal.
The new release date for Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 is Wednesday, August 21.
Our Google account key changes have been reverted. If you added your Google account with the old keys (W31 or older) it will start working again. If you added your Google account with the new keys (W32 or newer) you will need to go to the Calendar app and tap "Sync" to re-authorize your account. Sorry for the inconvenience.
-
I believe the 1st version I tried was v32 and I have not had any issues syncing to google calendar. However syncing contacts does not appear to work.
I will update, retry and report back (probably over the weekend). -
Hey, guys, I had a problem,
I've changed from stable channel to rc channel,
the phone puts me to update, I have updated and the phone starts to update and then the recovery appears to me,
I restart now, but it is blocked at the beginning for more than 5 min.
I managed to enter recovery mode,What can I do?
-
@Josele13 Will it restart using the recovery option to restart. If so what do you get? rc or stable. If it goes back to stable either retry or flash rc with the installer(remembering NOT to select the wipe option).
What device are you using? -
@Lakotaubp I have Nexus 5, I'm installing from Ubports installer
-
@Josele13 ok, was going to try mine but it's flat will charge and try tomorrow. Let me know how it goes.
-
@Lakotaubp has finished doing the installation, has not deleted anything and has maintained the configuration, the phone works again in stable channel, I do not change anything until the next update ...
Regards.....
-
@Josele13 Glad your back to normal. OTA -10 lands next Wed 21st.

"just one more thing"
https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3005/please-help-to-revive-nexus-5
which should be renamed to "Beware: No incoming calls from Skype". Known issue? -
@nightshift Hi, can you confirm if you are running RC channel on your device. If not then then the issue you have is not OTA-10 and might just confuse the issue here.OTA-10 arrives in Stable on Wed 21st
