I switched my SIM card from an old Galaxy Nexus phone that ran on LineageOS 13 to my slightly newer Nexus 5 phone using Ubuntu Touch. The Contacts app gave the option of "Import contacts from SIM card", but this failed. I suspect I'll just have to manually type my contacts into the Ubuntu Touch Contacts app.

@MarkG_108 SIM card can store few contacts 30 if I'm right.
Most smartphones store the contacts on the phone, not on the SIM, so are you sure you have contacts to import ?

To fix your issue, you can export your contacts from the older phone using VCF file and then import it.
