Hello everyone! i have ubuntu touch on a device with a fingerprint scanner.

i saw that it is possible to get a fingerprint on the meizu pro 5, however that requires a pro5-specific script

is there any way to enable it universally?

You need a piece of code/software that knows how to talk to your fingerprint reader... Presumably the fingerprint reader of your device is different from the one the pro 5. So its a device specific thing. If someone knows how to talk to your fingerprint sensor or knows how to find it out and invests some time to implement it... then it can be enabled for your device even without the necessity of executing scripts by the end user...

Someone needs to write and tests a biometryd plug-in that uses hybris fingerprint support, as a generic solution (or better, remove the need for plug-ins in biometryd and simply use hybris on android, and whatever native option is available for upstream kernel based systems).

Ok and I wrote on Github already, we probably also need to fork biometryd and recompile for 16.04

Turns out we are building biometryd and the lib for xenial: https://ci.ubports.com/job/biometryd/job/xenial/2/artifact/

@Flohack Right, but there are no plug-ins, because on 16.04 the ABI is different, and the only existing plug-in is the proprietary blob for Pro 5.

Meh. Maybe someone did this already for libhybris and we can fork smth else πŸ˜‰

Would be really nice to have this on the Xperia X. It has a fingerprint reader integrated in the on/off button. Not sure if there's a feature request on GitHub already?

@ruedigerkupper There are numerous requests, but still nothing has landed in stable: https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+fingerprint
