Ubuntu Touch on OnePlus 6
-
 Hey everyone,
I watched the UBports livestream on YouTube from January 2019 where they ported an FP2, and I'm wondering a couple of things. First, let me say I'm somewhat new to Linux.... and Python...... but I'm willing to at least give it a shot.I've browsed through the Halium documentation, and I'm sure I'll be pulling out my hair, but I digress. What would you tell someone like me undertaking a task like this? And for grins, anyone have any insight as to why an OP6 hasn't been ported for UBTouch yet? Thanks guys! DB

I think there has been problems with libhybris and Android 8+ devices. And of course it's a lot of work. OP3 is on its way. I have heard that after that they maybe will try the OP5. If you want to give it a try. I image many users will be thankful.

Will I be able to work on this in a virtual machine or even a dual boot environment, or will I have to dedicate my device to the UB porting? If the latter is the case, then I won't be able to attempt it...

@DwightBaxter you'll have to dedicate your device to UBT porting. as far as i know there is no way to emulate an Android smartphone for OS development

I know this post was from months ago, but it does show up on the first page of google so I'm gonna save some people some time. There is a ubports GSI that is working on the OnePlus 6/6T. Here's the link. This wiki shows a few other devices supported as well.
