Specs: Nexus 5
Ubuntu 16.04
OTA-11Fails:
- Doesn't connect automaticaly to an already saved WI-Fi, needs a reboot.
Whenever I run into wifi problems, just tapping the SSID name again (sometimes twice) reconnects successfully for me. Usually, I do neither need to switch wifi off/on nor to reboot.

Hi,
I have been using UT on Nexus 5 for a few days, but just as a testing device. I do not have a SIM card, I only use WiFi. I have 16.04 (devel, but I used Stable before)@C0n57an71n said in Nexus 5 - Review:

No problem for me, it connects automatically. Can it be related to the lack of SIM card?
Camera refuse to work on video mode
Gallery doesn't display play video, even recording was succesfully.I don't understand: how do you record a video successfully if camera refuses to work on video mode? Do you mean a video recorded on another phone?
For me, the camera works on video mode. I can record a video and send it. It will play on another phone. It will not in my gallery either. I tried to open different videos with media player. Doesn't work either. Doesn't work with UrPlayer either. BUT it works with UTmedia. At start-up, sometimes, the upper quick access bar is almost on the middlle of the screen. A push on the ON-OFF button will solve it.
Never happened to me
GPS works, but rather slow and only outside.
Have only tried once, to make the first fix. It worked inside (close to a window).
Hot spot emits, but other terminals are unable to connect to it
I can't set up a hotspot, can't switch it on. [edit: is it possible to make a hotspot without SIM card? I thought it would be (i.e. if you are connected to a WiFi but forgot the password and a friend wants to join), but it may be the reason why I can't on my N5]
Maybe you could try a clean install?

@chrisse All of these were with the SIM card inserted.
I managed to make the camera unfreeze: in photo mode, switch to video mode on the big camera. When frozen, switch on the small selfie camera and then back to big one. For me it works.
With the hotspot: I managed to find the network
with my other Android phone, but unable to connect. I double-checked the password ant encrypting mode. Nothing... Now it doesnt find it at all. I will keep playing with it... -
@C0n57an71n My Nexus 5 rarely reconnects to WiFi, but I find it best to cancel the initial request for a WiFi password, then swipe down from the top and select your normal WiFi. Then it connects automatically. But I'm using 15.04.
My BQ M10 reacts the same. -
@gregb49 I will leave it on WiFi from now on, without SIM, since is almost useless for daily use. Thanks for the tipp anyways!
-
@C0n57an71n That's a shame. I like my Nexus 5.
BTW. It has just come back to life, 2 days after being dropped down the toilet! (Not recommended!)
-
@C0n57an71n I would try a reflash if I where you, and try RC not stable. RC is what will be OTA-12 very shortly so not a risk to install. As for GPS turn sleep when idle to never in battery settings and leave the device by a window. It can take about 20 mins to get an initial position but should work better after that
-
@Lakotaubp When outside GPS finds my position within 1 minute. Pure Maps seems sometimes to be waaaay to lazy, but I guess it's still in development. The big issue for me right now is playing video. I'm not in need of it daily, but I expect to work as it is a basic function for an everyday phone. I'm really dissapointed of the lack of this function, but I understand the reasons why is so...: lack of funding, human resources, support from the camera prodicers.. etc.
-
@Lakotaubp I think UTPorts should concentrate on a phone with decent hardware, with open and free access software/ drivers to it and make it work flawlessly. Lack of apps is not such of a big deal, but lack of basic functions it is! How can I recommend this OS to a friend when I know what struggle it is just to have basic things? It seems to me that UT Ports is everywhere and nowhere... Just my thoughts...
-
@C0n57an71n That should be the PinePhone for one when it is ready. No layers of other people's stuff to make compatible, no driver issues etc etc All the problems that come with trying to work on top of/with android and other stuff.
I have tried most devices over the last few years as a daily driver and most have their niggles. The OPO was great except for camera zoom.
Still this is a great project and I believe with a great future, but yes newer devices would be good, and are being actively worked on. Which has to be done device by device.
This all takes time and a lot of effort and I have to say skill. Of which I have none.
So all in all when you add everything together, not to bad for a group of mainly volunteers anda project that is only a few years old. -
@Lakotaubp I have never complained about the team that put this project together! Hats off for them and for their dedication. UT Ports gets aprox 70€ per week from donation!!! How on Earth can you develop an OS with coffe money?! Really?!
-
@C0n57an71n No I appreciate what you say. On that figure others will have to comment on it's accuracy and validity. Anyone for a small sip of coffee

Hi,
I am still playing around with my N5 and I have tested some Android apps with Anbox. Spotify works and I can cast the music via WiFi to my stereo and via Bluetooth to a speaker.
