        @Natanox@chaos.social I'm sorry, but simply typing apt install package is unfortunately a lot faster than having to open KDE Discover and then navigating to the package I want to install and no GUI can ever beat that.

            @Natanox I would argue that some of the devs that make GUI tools make them as cryptic as the CLI commands.

              @bryanredeagle Good UI/UX certainly is an art in itself. πŸ˜…

                @Natanox see also:

                Advanced user: "Oh your distro has (systemd | gnome | KDE | snaps | etc.), what garbage, you shouldn't use that"

                  @Natanox please post your favorite accessible, user friendly GUI tools that replace CLI utils if you get a chance!

                    Many of the comments below this meme on Lemmy drive it home for me better than I could've ever dreamed of, oh my god.

                      @Natanox mmmh, yes, I do wonder if people see the point and miss it somewhat intentionally...
                      Though at least there are some who see it too.

                        @Natanox THIS! CLI will never top GUI in UX for the sole reason that CLI requires you to know what you are looking for, while GUI can help you find it.

                            @Natanox I definitely appreciate both. I feel like the CLI isn't as scary as people think it is sometimes though. Using it all the time requires a decent understanding, but using it occasionally is possible with minimal knowledge.

                            I know a lot of people these days don't want to learn though. Back when I used Discord I was on a few Linux chats where people who had no idea what they were doing had ChatGPT telling them what to do, and then they came asking us how to fix it.

                            When we would try to help, some of them would even say "but that's not what ChatGPT says", and at that point we'd mostly refuse to help them because its not beneficial to anyone if they won't listen.

                              @Natanox i love transmission-gtk, and timeshift.. i can use their cli counterparts, but sometimes, it's the simplicity of having a to-the-point interface, that can soothe the experience that makes it a better option..
                              can't say the same for apt guis though.. both gnome store and the synaptic are way too.. not zen.. (both in either direction)

                                @SuperDicq @Natanox Add to that, that Discover only shows AppStream packages and might give you flatpaks instead.

                                Better example is gparted vs. parted/fdisk. Much easier to use gparted.

                                I'm split on ffmpeg, it's great, yet has super cryptic syntax. And I never found a GUI that can cover all of the options well.
