UBports installer is listed as proprietary software
-
I installed UBports a few days ago and was surprised to see that the installer itself was identified by Ubuntu as proprietary software. Is this really the case, or was it misidentified as proprietary?
-
@jhl With which version of Ubuntu and which tool ?
With 16.04, I got this:And
apt show ubports-installer
give also "License: GPL-3.0" as result. -
If you are talking about the snap, it is misidentified in the snap store.
When the uploader does not choose a license (i.e. leaves the selection blank) it shows as proprietary. -
@libremax said in UBports installer is listed as proprietary software:
GPL-3.0
GNU GPL-3.0 isn't proprietary, it is open source:
https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.en.html -
@Capsia Yes, but I don't think anyone's written GPL-3.0 is a proprietary license, so...
-
@libremax oh... sorry, I've read two posts together as if it was only one
I can confirm that the installer is marked as GPL also on snap (Ubuntu 20.04)
EDIT:
found where the package is marked as proprietary:
- Download the deb package from https://ubuntu-touch.io/it_IT/get-ut
- Open it with Ubuntu Software
