      Hi,
I am a new user - just started using UT a month ago.
I am using a BQ 4.5 Ubuntu edition phone. The version is 16.04 (2020-w36).
During a phone call I am unable to see the number pad. The screen stays black when I pull it away from my head to try to punch in numbers (eg. for access to voicemail). I can get the screen to turn on by pushing and holding the on/off button, but as soon as I release the on/off button, it goes black again. Not enough time to punch in numbers.

Is there a setting I should change, or do you think this is a hardware issue?
Thanks for the great operating system - it is such a relief to be away from the g-apps ecosystem.
      🙂

Hi, you're using last week release.
There should be an updated available for you.

You might wanna try it out an report it back if you still have the issue.
Better you can open an issue in github so people will test it out to confirm that's common to BQ E4.5 users.

I'm on rc 85 (bq Aquaris 4.5), this issue has been with me for about six months. At this stage phone calls are almost impossible

Thanks AppLee and TheUlpio for your replies. I will look for an issue up on github and report it if I can't find it. Thanks for confirming the problem TheUlpio. 🙂

@AppLee I found this issue report with a similar problem (can't hang up) but it was reported in 2017, and has 72 comments over the years. That's all I found so far in the UT github.

Cannot hang up call - #195

                  Hello again,
In defining the steps for the bug report, I have been able to refine the problem.

                  Steps:

                  1. Open the phone app
                  2. Press and hold the number “1” on the number pad to auto-dial the voicemail service
                  3. Screen goes black
                  4. Voicemail service is dialed and the auto-voice is asking for me to put in my password
                  5. Since the screen is black, I can't put in my password

If I dial the voicemail phone number like a regular phone number, it works fine.

Can anyone here try it and see if that is the same for them on the BQ Aquaris 4.5?
                  Thanks
                  G

No problem with Nexus 5 on channel RC.

It sounds like your proximity sensor is broken kinda. Can you verify if the screen turns on when the charger is connected, or when notifications come in?

Thanks AppLee and FloHack for your replies. I posted more detail on the issue in a bug report on github:
                        https://github.com/ubports/ubuntu-touch/issues/1563

It seems to be specific to using that quick access to voicemail feature of the handset (press and hold the number one).

Dialing the voicemail phone number the regular way, the proximity sensor works just fine. And dialing a regular phone number works fine too.

Flohack: The little light at the top of the screen turns on, when the charger is connected. The screen turns on when a notification comes in.

                        Thanks
                        G

No rush on this - I have a work around (detailed in github ticket 1563)
