hello @derralf1983 and thank you for using Axolotl!

Yes, contacts import is currently broken for everybody, we noticed that yesterday evening. Signal changed there way to manage contacts import and it means we need to change it too. Unfortunately, that represents a lot of work and even if @nanu-c is working on it, it won't probably be solved in the coming days. The best way to see this resolved sooner is to find people knowing the Go language to come help us (join Axolotl-dev on Telegram).

Note that this doesn't block you for receiving messages of people even if they are not in your contact, and you are then able to answer them.

      Sorry for the bad experience.

I had the same problem today. I could not add a new contact. As a result, I added the person (only the name and phone number) manually in the following file:

        ~/.config/textsecure.nanuc/registeredContacts.yml

Hello @fla , thank you for the fast response!

Ok, good to know! Sadly i am just now starting to learn the Go language, so that i would not be of much help.

@ma : Thank you for the thint, the workaround works!

@ma Thank you for the hint. As I am a new user, I do not have any registered list and hence the file does not exist on my device.
Could anybody please post a file dummy here?

            Thanks!

@volkmar if you click on the "+" icon in the bottom right, that doesn't allow you to add a contact?

⚠ (also to @ma @DerRalf1983 and others): only add a contact this way if you are sure that this number is a registered Signal account otherwise you can be blocked by Signal.

I just did a new Axolotl version warning about this, I will publish it tomorrow.

Answering myself: No, that doesn't work at the moment.

Please do not try to import or add contacts using Axolotl v0.9.3. We're pushing a v0.9.4 in the coming hours with a workaround. Thank you.

@fla I now get the message "Your registration is faulty. Please consider to register again." Do you think this is because of the manually added name in registeredContacts.yml? Do you have any idea how to solve the problem other than re-registering? Thanks.

@ma I didn't do anything with contacts, but I also get the message "Your registration is faulty. Please consider to register again."

Attention: The dialog recommends to delete the registration and registering again. Registering again seems to delete all chats!!! Is there any way to get the chats back? Thanks in advance.

@ma said in Axolotl - no contact import or creation possible:

I had the same problem today. I could not add a new contact. As a result, I added the person (only the name and phone number) manually in the following file:

                          ~/.config/textsecure.nanuc/registeredContacts.yml

Thanks to the information in your post, I just succesfully exported my Axolotl contact list from one device and imported it into another device.
I did this by copypaste, using the file manager to put a copy of registeredContacts.yml into an accessible part of the file system (Downloads); I then transferred it to the Downloads directory of the new device, using the file manager of my laptop (both devices were connected with cables).
Then I placed the transferred file into the ~/.config/textsecure.nanuc/ directory of the new device, and when I started Axolotl on the new device, the contact list was populated. ✌

I have described the process in a newcomer-friendly way here so that people like me can understand it. 😉

                          Is currently using an Op5t
Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.
