I'm doing regular walks in my village area and there is a bank to do a break in around 900 meter distance of my house. One can "feel" the distance in the photo: the houses in the horizon are far away. The bank is around 10m over ground, because it's near a railway bridge over the road.

I was amazed when I discovered in my BQ my Wifi AP name tarara and first though in a bug, that the phone was still "thinking" being connected as when I left my home. But no, Wifi was really working. I could login into the admin interface of the router and the signal was shown with -50db. See the screens. How is this possible in such a distance?

I moved your tpoic to the specific device one.
If it grows wider, feel free to move it back to a more general thread 🙂

Have you tried to ask gooogle?

            https://www.quora.com/Whats-the-maximum-distance-a-Wi-Fi-signal-can-be-reached

Edit: "At 2.4 GHz, when there is no interference from other access points and/or clients, 100mW maximum EIRP power and stock 3dBi antennas then maximum range in open space when you have direct line of sight between your devices will be around 1.5 km. This is where you will get signal level of -80 dBm, which is around 4–6 dB SNR above the noise floor and which will give you around 1 Mbps."

@guru 900 m as the crow flies? That seems very very surprising! But the facts are the facts so maybe the water that we see that carries and amplifies the wifi waves... ?!
