Hello, on a desktop Debian, Ubuntu, Linux systems avahi daemon is used as a central place to publish and subscribe to zeroconf / bonjour services. Apps connect to the daemon using avahi-client library. I am the maintainer of QtZeroConf, a cross platform wrapper of zeroconf libraries. One of my users makes an app for Ubuntu Phone. Currently he is using something called avahi-core which is meant to be used on embedded system with a single application when avahi-daemon is not present. Ideally there should not be multiple applications listening for mdns traffic on the device. Would Ubuntu Phone be willing to add avahi-daemon? Or should his app make avahi-daemon an installation dependency?

@drwho Thanks for the question. It is certainly on our radars but for now we decided to not ship it due to potentially broadcasting on mobile data with the standard config. If someone is willing to step up, help and accelerate this effort it would be appreciated though, as we're very busy.

On a WiFi network you usually want as little Multicast/Broadcast traffic as possible so I suggest that IF you add Avahi then please make sure it's DISABLED by DEFAULT 🙂

On all my other Linux devices it's also Disabled where it can be and if it can be!

            My phones :

            • BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Phone Edition - Ubuntu Touch 16.04 LTS
            • ZUK Z2 Pro - ZUI Android 8.x
            • Xiaomi Mi 9T - Jolla SailFish 3.4.x Community Build

            P.S. : I am NOT a developer! ;)
