Nano memory card in second sim slot
-
Dear community members,
I have recently had success in installing Ubuntu Touch on my Xiaomi Mi A2. I am wondering if I can put a nano memory card (similar ro the ones on Huawei phones) in the second sim slot for expanding the memory?
Will this even be recognized by UT? Or will I potentially mess things up?
Your input/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @anandandlavie
I've never heard of memory card compatible with the SIM format.
In my opinion this probably won't work, but the SIM card can hold some data, so I guess something is feasible but it's most likely not a thing...

@applee Thanks for your message. Here is what I found on Amazon, so I was curious if people got this to work for Xiaomi Mi A2:

@anandandlavie
There is a picture there that explicitly show to NOT put it in a SIM slot.
So I guess it's only compatible with nano memory card slots...I didn't know about this memory format. This is a good day ; I learned something.
Thanks.

@applee, yes I too was confused about that picture. If you scroll down to the product description you will find there that it says explicitly that it can indeed be put into the sim slot.
In any case maybe worth a try eh? Just wanted to find out from the community if they have had experience with this, before I potentially screw up something with my phone!
Thanks for your input.

@anandandlavie
"only Suitable for Huawei P30/P30pro/P40 series/Mate20 Series/Mate30 Series Nano"I think that's clear enough...

@anandandlavie
I would suggest NOT to try this.
The only compatible phone at the moment seems to be Huawei because they created this format.
I suppose there is a software switch to use the secondary slot as a SIM reader or a NM reader.
And probably they developed a custom controller for this use case. -
OK, I figured it out.
The SIM tray is double sided. On the "head" side you can fit the SIM card and on the "tail" face, you can fit the NM card.
They do not share the same connectors.So no you cannot use them on phone not designed for it.
And probably not on UT even if a port is successful for such device. -
