keyboard does not work

I have a redmi 4x, when I connect the keyboard via the usb port, a notification about the layout setting appears and the corresponding icon is displayed, but when I press the keyboard, nothing happens. How to fix it?

I have just done some testing :- Grabbed my OTG adapter for micro USB port phones.
- Connected a Mouse : Works!
- Connected a Keyboard : Works!
For the keyboard I had to go to the notification and select a layout first so I went with my usual favorite : English International with Alt Gr Dead Keys
After that went into the Language & Text Settings and indeed : It showed the sub-option called "External Keyboard"
Was able to :
- Press the Windows button to open the Application Drawer/Apps Launcher
- ALT+F1 to do the same.
- Esc to close it again.
- ALT+F4 to close stuff!
Soo... I guess it works on a BQ phone without any issue!

@pzrnqt1vrss That port s marked as inactive and very little info is avialable https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/santoni/ so can only guess this has not been sorted yet. I would try to contact the porter for advice.
