Waydroid with LineageOS unroot
-
Waydroid boots a rooted LineageOS. This prevents some Android apps from running (as these apps check for root access). Magisk on native LineageOS devices solves this issue (Magisk requires patching of the boot image).
How to hide root from Waydroid/LineageOS apps? Unroot the LineageOS? Use Magisk (but what to patch)?
-
@tuxracer I have never rooted an android image or hid this fact but if you want to patch the android Images Waydroid uses you need these two (I think):
If you want to know it for sure you can find the used images by Waydroid under "/var/lib/waydroid/images"(if waydroid is installed) and all available images under https://sourceforge.net/projects/waydroid/
Patch whatever needs to be patched and make the system read/write with these commands:
sudo -s sudo mount -o remount,rw /
Put the patched files in "/var/lib/waydroid/images" and delete the old ones.
Now run:waydroid init reboot
No guarantee that this will work though.

Hello friends. I´m a beginner in both waydroid and UBtouch.
Is the only workaround/solution to @tuxracer ś question, still to patch the image from waydroid/images with magisk ?
I would love to avoid android (that´s why I flashed UBtouch ) , But sadly, most of us, need these critical bank apps, which on present lineageOS in waydroid, result in a "your phone/OS is rooted error"
Thanks in advance

I have also looked at waydroid extras package script (to obtain magisk) , but i´m unsure if I have the skills, to make it work.
https://github.com/casualsnek/waydroid_script/issues/24 -
As far as i remember you un root your system from within the magisk app. Not sure if this would be possible without an android recovery. Don't know if waydroid contains a recovery.
To install the magisk app just change the make from .zip to .apkAlso at some point you could flash the magisk zip again to remove it, bit i never got that to work.
Never patched a room before installation though.

@fungie okay . so the only solution to hide root from bank apps in waydroid, is to install magisk?
That I did already try . First as a .apk and then with the script here:
https://www.opensourceagenda.com/projects/waydroid-script
The .apk alone, did not do much, as it needed some dependencies
The script took me a bit further, but app still wanted to upgrade, and flash magisk via recovery to work proberlyI´m still confused about, if there is an existing solution to get magisk to do it´s magic?
-
I mean as far as i remember, in the magisk app is a big uninstall button to get rid of it (+ the root patch itself)
-
@fungie sadly there is not

@fungie Maybe i´m tired, or maybe we misunderstand each other?
My bank apps (on waydroid) states that my phone is rooted. I thought that magisk could hide this info ?
Magisk will not install proberly enough to do it´s trick because waydroid does not have twrp (i think)
I did try installing magisk with this python script, but still no luck.
I´m unsure if my bank apps just think that my phone (waydroid) is rooted, because of unlocked bootloader, and missing google services?
I did install microG apps after waydroid installation (before i began to mess with magisk)
https://microg.org/But that didn´t do the trick (to get my bank apps working)

@brainbreaks Maybe a solution could be this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/signature-spoofing-on-unsuported-android-11-r-roms.4214143/But before I throw my self at it, with my novice skills:
Has anyone in here, already tried this on ubtouch/waydroid with success? -
In experience some banking apps even detect the newest hiding methods of (a fully working) magisk.
So my idea just has the unrooted state as a goal.
It seems that the magisk app can not detect that the rom was rooted. Therefore no uninstall button. -
Just my two cents here: that banking apps insist that you must have a locked bootloader with no root access is understable. That they require google services, less so. If you call your bank and tell them you don't have android or ios, and you need another solution - that is, that they buid an app for UT, in my experience you'll get the following reactions: first, doubt: "what do you mean ? Don't you have a smartphone ? " then, trying to help: "just get a phone that works !" After that and you insisting this is a personal choice and that YOU are the customer, more than often you'll be outright shat on: "come on ! Don't you live in the 21st century ? We're not gonna give you the old people solution, are we ?". Finally, if you managed to contain your rage, you might get the chance to be offered the "old people solution" - that is, a box the sole purpose of which is performing 2FA. That's what I have, and that's perfect. Don't forget to regularly insist on you leaving for a more open-minded bank, even though such a thing is fantasy ^^

Where do you live and what is your bank, i WANT this, i'm too old for this android s*** ^^

@keneda CIC, france... Some banks also still offer sms verification. The box is called digipass but I also saw other boxes with other names

Yes, like l'écureuil but they keep on warning me that this gonna end and i'll have to get their app.
If they don't offer the old man box, i shall move away. -

I totally agree with you
To all others : The term "bank app" was my slang in hope for everybody, to get an idea of an important app, that I can´t get rid of. (although I really want too)
I could easilly end up with the "old man solution" , because my country (like banks) is a "modern" business , taking peoples security seriously i terms of only offering apps for google and apple
To be more specific, it´s an updated , digital , social security app , replacing an old one , which did work with MicroG signature.
In the meantime I did manage to figure out, that the only solution for now, is either to continue trying to install Magisk w/Zygisk on Lineage in waydroid, or give up and take the "old man solution"
I´m not going back to google or apple again. Not in this life
Overall I´m very pleased to be a part of the pioneers of average joes , finally taking the jump to linux powered mobileOS
Thanks for letting me in.. -
@keneda In UK we have the option of a debit card reader that generates a unique code for verification.

@cliffcoggin
That sounds like the @Emphrath old man box
