I'm roaming on O2 in Scotland. Can use call and text. Friend has Android phone also roaming on O2. He has no problem using data. Data and roaming is on.
Anyone know what I can do?. I'm on wifi now, so it's no big problem. Just would be nice to have.

@emphrath : No L in top, but when I slide down the top bar it does show both roaming and L.

Try a 'sudo reboot' in terminal and see if that resolves it. There was a bug that appears to have been resolved back in 2021.
Can you send and receive MMS?

@Emphrath @MrT10001 : switching network doesn't change anything. Noticed some strange behavior: before you make a network selection, only numbers are shown in the list. Once you've selected a network, the name of the network appears. Not very intuitive there. Voice and text work, never used MMS. My partner is on the same network with Android phone, same roaming provide, is able to connect without a problem. I rather not do a terminal command now, as I also have my boarding pass on the phone.

@alter networks showing as numbers is extremely weird (I owned two UT phones before this one - all had their shares of problems but not this) to me it points in another direction: your apn settings are badly configured. In network settings, under access point names, you'll find forms that you need to fill with the exact apn settings your provider lists on their website. UT is bad at doing this automatically and my guess is your issue could lie here.

@emphrath : I checked the info on the website of my provider. Apparently their site has several help items on the subject 'APN settings'. Not all advise the same settings! I will check the settings I haven't tried yet, but it will have to wait till next time I visit the country 😞
                      Thanks for your help
